mac os-x compatibility problem Hi. I just got an ibook G4, but when I download limewire and click to install, it won't. I'm not really familiar with macs yet, so I'm having problems. At first the window would say my trial version of Microsoft office for mac has expired and did I want to buy a new one (do you have to have office for macs in order to run limewire?). Now it says that quicktime does not recognize the application. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this? I'm going crazy not being able to download free music! Thanks, - Patricia |

You do not need MS Office on your computer to run Limewire. I deleted every bit of it(Office)ages ago! This thread in OSX support might help http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=42872 Its a bit technical and might not be related to your problem. Also check that what you downloaded is titled LimeWireOSX.dmg as there has been a case of it having a different title and being launched unsuccessfully in Excell now there's a strange coincidence! If your downloaded file is correctly titled it should open without any tie up with quick time afaik. If you control/click on it it should say "open with DiscImageMounter (default)" If it does not let us know what it does say. If you do not want to keep MS Office, it seems like agood idea to delete it and try again. I hope this helps Let us know if you need more help! |

ok when I click on the LimeWireOSX.dmg (after re-downloading it), it says: Warning, the following disk images failed to mount. No mountable file systems. Is this the Java problem I see everyone talking about? Thanks for the thread link, but no luck with it. - Patricia |

I think it was in anoher thread but it is also 4 posts up in mafdet22's post: ""when i click on limewiresoftosx, it reads could not open file, as quicktime doesn't understand. is anyone else out there having this installation problem?"" I thought that it might be a scam version two, but, also in my first post above, i recalled another thread where someone found LW trying to open with Excell (unsuccessfully of course) ... a bit strange |

I had the same problem when I used Explorer & Netscape. But was advised by experienced mac osx users on the forum that Safari solves it. I haven't looked back. Though I have accidentally used the wrong browser from time to time. duh Yes mafdet22 asnwered in another thread about the same problem. I renamed that thread Help!!! dmg thinks its an Excell or QuickTime document |
