You may be being filtered where did you get you version of LW from did you DL it from P2P net.

banmicrosofttoo August 27th, 2005 11:31 PM

dont worry.. we're attempting to get tor to bypass college firewalls for peer to peer traffic, however our problem is that the tor servers are blocking outbound 6346/tcp connections :(

rajin_cajun August 28th, 2005 09:50 AM

I got my limewire from www.Limewire.com

its weird that i can download for a short period of time, and it goes really slow.

any suggestions. Its hellaboring over here.=)

You can try the preference folder fix in the link below but if you got your version from the official site I drought that is the problem. The odds are you are filtered.

you do know that you can change ports right?

banmicrosofttoo August 29th, 2005 02:04 AM

ultracross,

i haven't yet figured out a setting yet to work 100% yet. the problem is to get tor setup, you need access to your router. most of these people don't have access, they're at college, or at work. so i gotta find a way to get a port open by default on a firewall.

then i have to make sure the same port is open on a tor's hosts firewall too. its becoming a slow pain in the ***. it worked once when a tor host didnt have a firewall or had the gnutella port open. however, in the tor console window, i noticed a majority of hosts did block 6346/tcp.

sounds like no one knows how to fix the problem. Alright thanks anyway

Lord of the Rings August 29th, 2005 12:38 PM

A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 1 - 3 which has a link to alternative instructions. This is a small possibility of working. Also changing ports.

primetime335 August 29th, 2005 05:19 PM

how do i change ports? because i'm at college and have the same exact problem as that kid.

i neeeeed to be able to download music, and limewire is the best.

i wonder if this tidbit makes any difference- the blue star songs download really really really fast, like 250 kb/s fast.

but then everything else crawls thens stops like the poster of this thread said.

ultracross August 29th, 2005 05:23 PM

blue start connection quality are ethernet speeds. it means that other people on your lan is sharing those files :)

Well thanks for the help we gave! Here's an example of how a p2p bandwidth shaper can work: Bandwidth Shaper Sample - typical of how some ISP's use it (click on link) ie: giving priority to net surfing & low priorities to p2p sharing such as the Gnutella network. Perhaps if you searched your topic a little instead of expecting hand held answers you might find an answer.

And see if you can use a proxie or even try opening port 6347.

rajin_cajun September 16th, 2005 09:12 PM

well finally

After messing around with Limewire, and reading these post, i finally came to somewhat of a solution. Under firewall in the LW options i chose "Do Nothing" which is not recommended. Limewire connected finally, and searches came up. YAY. But i was really limited. I could only download from people on my network(they had a blue star). And not many searches came up. Aleast right now, I am connected. Some Yellow Star searches came up, but i cant connect to them, and not alot of search results.

But now, who knows how i can better fix this. LW finally says im not behind a firewall. So why isnt it running perfectly?

Probably because the school is blocking or filtering P2P networks. Have you tried to change listening ports on LW. I do not know if it will do any good or not but you can give it a try. With LW open click on tools/options/advanced/firewall config you can change the port there.

rajin_cajun September 17th, 2005 10:20 AM

i tryed to use manuel ports. But i couldnt even connect. Anything else?

Grandpa September 17th, 2005 04:39 PM

Sorry that is all I have.
