Well, at least you got one green bar. lol :D

* Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

an you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

See http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...014#post158014 about patching your XP SP2 system.

Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

even when i disable my firewall it wont connect it just stops at 1 bar and says connecting and i have set my firewall so that it allows limewire to access the internet

I also seem to have the exact same problem. When I connect Limewire to the net I only get one green bar (1-3 kb/s if any downloading at all, unable to use search function), all of the others stay red + the small icon in the bottom tray says that I have an active firewall, even when I have turned it off. Tried the http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ test and it worked. Also tried to delete the .limewire preference folder and other suggested solutions on the forum, without sucess.

1. OS version: Windows XP Proffesional service pack 2
2. Firewalls: Standard Windows Firewall (normally disabled)+ Norton Internet security
3. RAM: 1024 mb
4. Available harddisc space: About 102 GB
5. Connection type: Cable ADSL 4 500/600 Kbps (NextGenTel)
6. Modem brand and number: SpeedTouch 510i (Thomson)
7. Place of attempted connection: Home computer
8. LW and Java versions: 4.9.28 (LW) & 1.5.0_24 (Java)
9. ISP provider: Not so sure... but must be NextGenTel
10. Sharing connection with other computers or p2p apps: no, using only LW, only one computer on the connection
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user: Used previous builds of Limewire (4.8), problem occured after upgrading to 4.9 and fixing a corrupted windows user profile

Thanks in advance

I don't have the installer of the working 4.8 version lying around anymore... Anyone know where I can get an official installer of an older version?

Sgt September 7th, 2005 08:37 AM

Hi WereAngel

you could try this site but they only go to 4.0.7

http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=limewire

I only have limewire back to 4.9.0.1

wish I could get 4.8.1 seems to be really good from what I've been reading on the Forum
