Default Router Configuration

OK Im in my college dorm room, and when I use my wireless router (even when Im hard wired into it) Limwire ceases to work, however when I connect straight to the wall it does work....so Im trying to figure out whats going on....is there a way that I was supposed to configure my router so that everything should work?

The only thing that I have done with the router is encrypt it, and it is a D-Link DI-524, and its been working fine til now....

Yep the D-Link routers don't use UPnP unfortunately & do have NAT firewalls. I have one myself.
Remember you need to do it using these steps:

1. Set up a static ip 1st. This is the most important step otherwise you'd be wasting your time if not done or done correctly. Pay attention to this b/c this is where most people make errors if mistakes are made.
2. Forward a port.
3. Finally, within LW: Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that.

I appreciate all the help, but can you break that down even a little bit more, Im still not sure how I need to do all this stuff, and Im kinda afraid to mess around with it, as my router has acted strange in the past.....thanks in advance!

Start Here it is at the start page follow the instructions these are the easiest instructions I know of. The first link is for setting up static IP Address you must do this first. Then go to the second link.

alright I pulled up all my information but unfortunetly it gives me the DNS server as the router address 192.168.0.1, and Im pretty sure its not supposed to do that....so is there a way I can find the DNS Server? If I connect it straight to the wall, should it give me it? Thanks again~Jordan~

Unfortunately I do not have a D link but the just wright all the numbers down in the Dos window. All the numbers you need should be in there. The D-Link has quite a few steps that are not required on my router. Maybe somebody else has forwarded one and can help more than I can.
