Connection difficulties, tried everything. Not on Insight. Alright. Before you ream this little n00b, know that I have read pretty much EVERY forum in this place, and have tried everything. So. I have a Mac, Limewire, and a college connection. I just moved in about a month ago, and Limewire hasn't worked ONCE for me yet. When I was at home, it worked like a charm. Now I have to deal with a router (Cisco uBR942) and a university internect connection. It says I have a firewall, but everytime I force a proxy and a new port, it still says the same thing. I've tried about a dozen different ports (even port 80) and still no luck. All the "Check Your Ports" don't work for me. Also, I've tried setting up a static IP, incase it's not the school's ISP that's blocking the port and it's the router I've got my ethernet hooked up to. But I can't find directions on how to do it on a Mac. In addition, a friend of mine in my dorm has a different p2p program, and she can download things. I can download pages, things I find on the internet, widgets, all of it. So maybe it's not that the school's restricting bandwith? Anyone care to help? |

Most universtities/colleges block or at least filter p2p sharing nowadays. Here's an example of how a p2p bandwidth shaper can work: Bandwidth Shaper Sample - typical of how some ISP's use it (click on link) ie: giving priority to net surfing & low priorities to p2p sharing. And low priority to Gnutella programs. Well consider them generous, b/c many uni's/colleges totally block p2p sharing now. |

lilangel did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your isp provider? 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 11. Do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False? * Don't use the Resume button/find sources button on all incomplete files. This can have side-fx such as affect LW's connection quality. May queue your files for much much longer. This will also stress LW & your comp. If you use Resume/Find sources then just apply it to a couple or so at one time.
