Connection Problem with Windows I am in university halls and we have resnet. I am trying to use limewire to download anything but i cant. The Residential network has been blocked. I have not tried port scan .I can only download through Lan if anyone else using Limewire in the halls but only as far as that. The only programs that will work are internet browsers, skype and msn messenger (jut typing no voive or video). Can anyone find a solution or is there a possible solution to this without getting me into too much trouble? also if i press netstat in the cmd the open ports shown are 1080,1112,1234,1575,1577,1581,1583,1585,1298-9,1381-2,1387-8 and other times i can see a few other ports in the same range as mentioned above. Ps i have disabled the windows firewall and i do not have any other internet security ,and i do not know what the uni firewall is |
Universities nowadays are generally blocking p2p. One possible solution is to use a proxy but there's no guarantee that it will work & you might need to try many proxies before one works. See A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 1 - 3 which have links to alternative instructions. It also depends upon how they are blocking p2p. Whether they're blocking ports or specific programs, etc. But yes you can always try other ports for LW to listen thru. Be they those above or ones like port 80 or a higher one like 40000 or something. |
