Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
12. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

Well if he isn't going to answer I can as I am having an identical problem. In anwer to your question, Lordoftherings, here goes:

1) Windows XP
2) I believe I am using Norton firewall. Also, could be the Windows firewall. If this is important you will need to tell me where or how to check as to what I am using.
3) Ram = 512
4) 50 GB
5) Cable
6) LYNKSYS, Model = BEFSR41
7) Home
8) Version 4.9.4 - Java 1.5.0_04
9) Never had a problem with my old ISP provider. This only started happening when I upgraded. ISP was working fine for over a year of usage until I updgraded to 4.9.4.
10) Yes, sharing with one other computer via router but this was never a problem in the past with the old version of limewire.
11) This is a new problem with an experienced user.
12) I get message that says "Your Test Worked."

i am also getting limitted connentions...only one green bar.
in answer to the questions...
1)Windows Xp
2)Windows firewall
3)111
4)72.6GB
5)LAN
6)???
7)University (res)
8)LW 4.9.3 Java 1.4.2
9)no idea
10)the whole res shares the internet connection but no one else is having a prob.
11)new user....didn't have a prob with old program
12) the message worked

LW will sometimes disconnect too

red_eyes university res might be the reason. If you can connect at all you're lucky since most uni's are totally blocking p2p nowadays. Here's an example of how a p2p bandwidth shaper can work: Bandwidth Shaper Sample - typical of how some uni'ts & ISP's use it (click on link) ie: giving priority to net surfing & low priorities to p2p sharing. But ... if you were able to connect before then either they've changed their policy or it's a LW/Java/Firewall issue.

Both sakahowdah & red_eyes: Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) Normally for norton firewall, disable XP firewall (go to the control panel, double click on Windoze Firewall, check the disable box) & configure Norton FW *Configuring Norton Internet Security However, someone today found their solution was the other way around: !!Solution!! to LW Problems!!

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire Make sure you 1st note any settings that you think are important to your set up. Once you reopen LW, you'll need to reset them all.

sakahowdah go to LW's menu, Tools>Options>Speed & tick Disable Ultrapeer Capabilities & press apply. UPnP which Linksys uses doesn't work well in ultrapeer mode.
