Firewall Problems.

Ok this has probably been posted thousands of times before but i'm new and I'm not searching for that thread but I get this exact message " Limewire was unable to initialize and start. This is usually due to a firewall program blocking Limewire's access to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine. Please allow Limewire to access the internet and restart Limewire."

Now, I've allowed it on my firewall and I've gone through the Help Section about connection problems but I'm still getting the same error about it not being able to connect.. I don't have any other firewall that I know of and if i did I'd like to know how to check. I've un-installed and re-installed Limewire already for the thousanth time but I'm not having any luck.

Please help me because I'm stumped.

You going to have to get a little smarter.

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

* Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

12. Do This test, Is the result True/False?

Ok Grandpa.
1. XP
2. The only firewall I know is the one built into XP
3. 512 MB RAM
4. Don't know this one not too into my computer..
5. Cable
6. Adelphia is my provider that's all I could find.. :(
7. Home
8. I can't even get into my LW so I can't find that
9. What's an ISP?
10. No other connection except my mothers wireless internet
- Linksys is the router thing.
11. it says your test worked

Sorry about the ones I couldn't get if you can tell me how to get to them, I'll tell you my information.

I've already done that first Help part and I'm allowing it. The second test about True and False i can't do because i can't get into the program it just shuts down before even starting to load.

1st things first, did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

Linksys routers generally use UPnP which is good. To double-check do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

Also have a look thru this: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=28427 & see the tips especially about SP2 patches. I left one myself as did others. There's also other tips.

If the things The Lord sugested don't work You may have a previous install of java that did not complete or is corrupted try un installing it if you can't then deleting the java folder and re installing it manually. Also uninstall LW and reinstall it after you install Java. You can find java in the link below. Let us know if it works

Follow the instructions in the link below to port forward your router. Also make sure XP firewall allows Limewire acess.
