1. Which version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.

2. How long has this problem been happening?

3. I presume you configured your XP firewall. See Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

4. After LW has been running for 20 mins or more do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False?

One thought is to delete your LW preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire But 1st make a note of any special settings. If you delete your LW prefs folder, you'll need to reset your options next time you open LW.
