Starts to connect, then uses 100% system resources Whenever I try to start LimeWire the program window pops up and then the whole computer kind of freezes up. The odd thing is, LimeWire worked fine on my old PII 350 mhz (win98). The specs of my new computer that may or may not be pertinent: A64 3700 + SD core 2 x 1 gb OCZ 3200 Plat. RAM Win XP Pro Everything is the same except for the computer. I don't get it. I downloaded Shareaza and Ares to see if it was some kind of virus exploiting P2P programs, but both those work fine (unfortunately they suck). |
I think it's java Ok, I've narrowed it down to Java. When I tried accessing Java through the control panel, it froze up exactly as it does when I try to open LimeWire. What happens is the cursor freezes up and moves intermittently while the window being opened shows no picture. Any suggestions? I've tried 1.4.2 as well as 5.0 and both do not work. |
Ok, I finally found the solution after searching around some more. Thanks to this poster (Krazy Konrad): "Running LW 4.8.1 basic, windows xp, updated as far as i know Today i started up LW and the window appeared but ther was nothing on it, the main window was all white and the "upgrade to pro" window was just grey. Restarted my comp a few times didnt fix it. Solution i used: LW had worked for me before so i knew it should be working, the only thing i had changed is in my video options for windows. i have a ATI x800 right click on deskto-> properties -> Settings tab -> advanced button -> 3D ati tab -> direct 3D -> custom button i had just switched the check boxes labled "application prefference" for AA and anisotropic from checked to unchecked becasue of a game i was playing and set them to 4x AA and 8x Ansi. Then i later i started LW and got the blank screens, so i changed the boxes back to "application prefference" checked and LW started normally. Hope this helps anyone having this problem (i know thre was at least one other person) and to the LW devs, hope this helps you fix it more permanently." Someone sticky this guy's info, it was impossible to find. |
