Please help, can't connect

It won't get past Starting Connection and has error message" LW has detected a firewall" or something. I have DSL and I have tried everything from the LW support pages and nothing works. I have WinXP and have followed all of the instructions on the firewall settings. I also have Avast! , could that be a problem, also I'm confused about all the port numbers and the proxy settings and the ISP address. It's the PRO edition so Im wasting my money! Someone help please!

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
6. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
7. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
8. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
9. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.

Does avast have a capacity to clear certain programs? Some av & adware/spyware programs do require to give clearance for LW. I'm not sure which ones do this.
BTW not wise to have 2 active firewalls as they can interfere with each other, so if you have 2, disable one & configure the other.

about ISP, he mean what company you using for internet?? TIme Warner? Cox? Comcast? AOL? what company

bluemeanie October 27th, 2005 10:27 PM

Comcast, i guess

Lord of the Rings October 28th, 2005 11:59 AM

I'm guessing the problem is either or both your firewalls & your Di-Link. I have a di-link myself & AFAIK they don'f offer models that use UPnP. Thus you may need to manually port forward.

AFAIK Avast is only an AV program: Avast Forum comments

So you will need to at least configure your XP firewall; Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

I can't find specific instructions for your model of DLink. I came across these links: DWL-120-Wireless-LAN-USB-Adapter, & review, & for D-Link Port Forwarding A, plus also D-Link Port Forwarding B

thanks, i'll check that out. What numbers do i use to manual port forward?

Lord of the Rings October 31st, 2005 10:25 AM

The default port no. for LW is 6346, however, if you have any doubts that this port is being blocked then there's many others. Here's some samples: 1111, 3500, 4008, 1203, 8360, 10000, 15189, 80, 443, 19515, 20282, 22817, 25079, 26394, 34599, 40475, 42628.

BTW the above port 6346 port test to see whether it's open or not can be used to check after port forwarding.
