Connection Problems

Hi to all. I'm having a problem with my ADSL connection when running Limewire. I have no problem connecting to the network or making a file search but as soon as I start downloading the connection is terminated (actually , it freezes along with everything else!) within 2-5 minutes. I live in Greece, Forthnet is my ISP and I have a 384kbps connection using a microcom ADSL usb modem (AD 2622). Any ideas?

Update your Java (see point #1 for link to Offline Java here): Fixes for Limewire

Go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Downlds & reduce downlds to about 80% of your possible speed. Do the same for uploads. Go to Speed setting & tick to disable Ultrapeer capabilities. The 384 kbps, is that a tested speed or the speed the claim to offer you? (Remember kbps = kilo bits per second. So to convert it to Kilo Bytes per second you divide it by 8. Overhead loss is generally between 20-25%.) That equates to about 48 KB/s but minus overhead would give you about 38-39 KB/s. So reduce it by about 4-6 KB/s so you have some left over for browsing, etc.

Don't use the Resume button on all incomplete files. This can have side-fx such as affect LW's connection quality. May queue your files for much much longer. This will also stress LW & your comp. If you use Resume/Find sources then just apply it to a couple or so at one time.

I have the same prob but other places on the forum it says this is a prob due to later releases of Limewire from 4.9.30 onwards.

Where on the forum does it say that? Please supply links. So many other people are using the newer versions very happily. There's always a few who have problems & always has been. It's generally due to their own set up & net environment/scenario. Considering the milllions who use LW & the newest versions, only a small % have probs.

Sorry to burst your bubble but I was happily using Limewire until 2 days ago when I upgraded to PRO.
