Limewire Stops my Internet Connection, Why?

Hi

Has anyone else had the problem of when they run Limewire, they can't use other Internet tools like Internet Explorer or Messenger? My Internet connection just completely stops after a few minutes in Limewire.

Anyone got a solution to this problem?

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
12. Do you use the Resume/Find Sources function on many files at one time? If yes, how many at once?

Is your Voyager connected via USB or ethernet card? About USB modems see 3.4 USB-based modems/routers (scroll down page to 3.4) & this point NO USB past this point! (also need to scroll down a little.)

AOL ... well they seem to trouble p2p users. There's been a history of it.

I'd recommend after opening LW, let it settle for about 10-20 mins (depending on how many incomplete files you have) before using any of its functions.

Also, go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Speed & tick Disable Ultrapeer Capabilities. Also, do you have OOB option ticked? Try unchecking it. Not sure if it'll make any difference.

It might be an idea to reduce both upload & downld speeds slightly. Perhaps 80% of what they are at present.

Since you're using Win XP SP2, this might help: http://www.lvllord.de/?url=tools
SP2 reduces simultaneous connections.

Also, did you only start having problems after the recent XP update?

Also, if you're using Zonealarm (I presume you configured it using Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)) & disable XP's firewall (go to the control panel, double click on Windoze Firewall, check the disable box.)
