Limewire Startup problem

My Limewire won't startup. I double-click it but it doesn't run at all; it just loads for half a second and nothing happens.

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. Windows 20000 Advanced Server
2. No firewall (for sole testing of this purpose)
3. 1024 MB RAM total but windows is currently only using 768MB
4. 7 GB HD space availble
5. DSL
6. Linksys BEFSR41 v2 Router
7. I'm trying to connecto from home.
8. I have the latest Limewire Basic from website.

The last time I logged on LImewire was a month ago and it was fine.

Thank you.

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 in Fixes for Limewire (sample at bottom of page.) If that doesn't fix it then re-install Java using the "Offline" installer. Failing that, reinstall LW.

i already deleted the LW preferences (as i read the fixes already) and I uninstalled both LW and java and reinstaleld java latest version (offline) and LW latest basic. both to no avail:( :( :(

Hmm last time updating your Java from 1.5_1 to 1.5_4 fixed your problem. When you re-installed LW, did you use the online or "Offline" installer version? Trying the offline might be the go. If that doesn't do it, uninstall Java 1.5 & try 1.4.2 unless you've already tried that. If that still doesn't do the trick get back to us.

I did the offline LW too that didn't work. i'll try the JRE 1.4.2 see if that works.

It worked! I installed JRE 1.4.2. Why does LW work with that rather than with JRE 1.5 ? Oh, BTW, thanks foryour help.
