Connection Problems - Nothing has worked! I have tried almost everything and I am still having the same problem. Whenever I get onto limewire it only connects a little bit (1 bar) and gives me the message saying that "your machine does not appear to have an active Internet connection or a firewall is blocking LimeWire from accessing the internet...." I have no idea what firewalls I have. I own Windows 2000 and have Microsoft AntiSpyware and Norton AntiVirus (but I don't think it has firewall.) However, when I close Microsoft AntiSpyware I still have the same problem. In addition whenever I close out of LimeWire and re-open it I have to go through the process where it asks what language you want and what connection my computer has etc. I don't know why I have to keep going through that process every time I open Limewire. Also, the "Listen On Port" in the Firewall Configuration keeps on changing from the default. Whenever I restore defaults and close out LimeWire and then restart it (going through the language and connection process again) it changes again. I have tried so many different things and nothing is working, please help! |
It sounds like your LW preferences are not saving at all. Even after you installed LW. I wonder why that would be. Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? 2. How much ram? 3. Hard Disk space available? 4. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 5. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 6. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 7. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 8. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)? 9. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. |
The test didn't work it went to "This page cannot be displayed" I'll try to find out more about my set up, this is what I know right now: Connection type: DSL Connecting from home Version: Limewire - 4.9.37 Java - 1.5.0_05 ISP: Alltel Thanks for your help! |
I watching this thread cause i have the same exact problem |
me too I am having the same problem too. What we can do. Please help. |
I tried changing the port number since the test didn't work (http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ )...but still no success. There is the "Limewire has detected a firewall" symbol next to the bars... but I have no idea what firewalls I have. I have Microsoft AntiSpyware, but even when I shut that down it still detects a firewall. Is there anyway I could find out what the firewall is? Or maybe it's something wrong with my Internet connection (I have Windows 2000, my ISP is Altell and I have DSL.) Can anyone help? Thanks |
Are you sure you don't have a router rather than a modem? These act as firewalls and need to be configured. |

After going crazy for several days tryin to figure this out, doin all the tests, adjustments, changing, etc, emailing support, etc..........here is what i be findin out the problem i am havin is with my ISP's server - some incompatibility with P2P files. They be workin with Limewire to resolve issues. Say will be fixed by end of today. Maybe check with yours to see if this be your problem too. Be happy - it gonna get fixed. |
