Thumbs down Limewire freezes my internet connection!

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this. Basically, I just got a router for my internet connection and ever since I started using it, every time I load Limewire, the internet connection freezes.

I can occasionally use Limewire during this, but it's very slow and I don't get many search results at all. But the internet freezes completely, can't find any websites whatsoever. And it stays frozen for at least a minute after I close down Limewire too.

I seem to remember having this problem with my old PC at my parents' home - but that seemed to rectify itself. But even looking through the advice here, I can't seem to find out what the problem is.

In case it's important, I'm on BT Yahoo Broadband running through a BT Voyage 205 router (though I doubt any of the American users here will know much about BT stuff!).

I also adjusted my router's settings the other day, so that it would allow me to play my Playstation 2 online - I'm not sure exactly what it did but I know it gave me a static IP address. I don't know if this would affect Limewire though.

Any ideas of how I can fix this?

I have no router and no knowldge of them, but I'm hoping this thread will help:-

There are other theads that mention router go to search ...above right and see what else you can find if you need to, but the thread I gave should help ,... also look at port forwarding... a link is in one of the posts.
