Partial quote from pm to MysticWolf: "Else change ISP's. Contact them & tell them you "KNOW" they are blocking you using a p2p filter. If they don't lift it, then you'll change ISP's. (I guess you could also tell them you know of many others in the same situation who are considering taking class group legal action against them & reporting them to the governing body.) I'd be very interested to hear their response!" It sounds to me like you lot should get together & 1. report the ISP to the particular regulatory body. 2. Put your cased to your ISP. 3. Consider court action against your ISP for breach of contract, false marketing, lying when inquiring, etc. It was "last year" I saw the link to another USA isp being fined by the reg body so I'm not at this point sure who to contact. I can research it if you wish but you can prolly do that too. I can assure you, you're more powerful as a combined group than individuals. Gov bodies will also take you more seriously! ;) Try to find others with same ISP & problems. |
I tried what you said about changing Port Numbers...still not working |
Last gasp is A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 1 - 3 which have links to alternative instructions. But you need to be patient if you're going to try this. You will need to try many, many proxy no.'s before you find one that works so don't give up quickly. The feedback to me is you need to try many before one works & even then you may need to find new ones after a while. Best advice, if the option is available, change ISP's. But I'd hope you don't let this ISP get away with this so easily. Please report them "at least". Please follow the suggestions made in this thread. There's sure to be many more out there in the wilderness who haven't approached the forum. And even then there's a no. who have. SO make contact with each other via pm, etc. & consider your options & check out each other's posts/threads. I don't live in the USA (although I have rights to live & work there according to my mother), but I do have qualifications in international trade/business which includes international law. Whatever that means! lol :D But law of contract is much the same as much as the laws of USA. Muchu brothu (local consumer sales contract laws are just a variation upon this. National laws come 1st!) |
yeah i chatted with someone at optonline and they also claimed that it was limewire's fault. and they were not filtering the default gnutella port. i was on hold for at least 20 minutes so i hung up and i'm going to wait until 9pm when my minutes are free and i'm going to give them a piece of my mind. |
I dunno, i for one cannot seem to get any p2p programs to work at all. I know a few people that use opt online and their programs ARE working right now so i don't know what's going on. It seems there are more that it is not working though, seeing i mentioned it to a group of about 8 friends of mine and 5 of them said their limewire stopped working recently as well. |
it's weird my azureus still works though, so i guess i'm pretty lucky. |
Cablevision is trying to free up bandwidth I told by a tech who was running a cable line at my friend's house for OOL. |
So what we can't use p2p now? |
|
It just seems weird that my neighbor across the street who uses satelite can connect and download from LimeWire...but yet I can't. I have talked with OOL and they say it not them, but LimeWire that is not working. When I told them that I was talking to over a dozen diffrent people in my area that use OOL to connect to the internet, and use LimeWire and they can't get a connection either, but other people who DO NOT use OOL CAN connect to LimeWire and ARE able to connect and download MP3's that it can't be LimeWire because it is Working. They told me that my situation had been elevated to a higher level. I think it's all a bunch of BULL...but we'll see |
