Angry my Limewire bogs down & runs slow??

I have used Limewire on other people's pc's and it works just fine and connects quickly, the searches load fast, ect. On my computer, it takes about 5 minutes for it to completely load and then another 5-10 for the window content to show up. Then if I try to search, it takes about 30 seconds for anything to respond and it completely bogs down and runs VERY slowly ~ any ideas?? I'm getting extremely frustrated and I'm about to switch to a different file-sharing program.

Reinstalling java or getting more RAM should solve the problem (or maybe even check if some malware is clogging your machine.)

Check your specs with the the other machines you tried, especially if you all use the same ISP and paid for the same connection speeds.

i run my ad/malware checker weekly, my computer has 61 gigs of available space and 512MB of RAM. i just updated my java the other day. i don't know what is going on ~ i've used the program on a friend's computer that has the same RAM but less space and Limewire runs just fine... i have a 1.2GB/sec connection and i've used limewire on a 36k connection and again it worked just fine. really weird....

your specs sound better, so to rule out a setup problem, search these forums for "accept incoming"

That will allow you to compare how clean your connection to the network is, in comparison with your friends.

If you all can accept incoming, then it's time to compare ISP's, since some have been reported as filtering or restricting gnutella traffic.

thanks for your help

the part that is confusing me is that the program used to work just fine for me until they upgraded to version 4.5 or 4.7 i think it was. after i updated my software to that version, it stopped working correctly.

Open up the task manager by holding down Ctrl+Alt then pushing down Delete. Then look to see which programs are using the most memory and how much they are using, also check the cpu usage and post your results back here.

Limewire uses 44,000K+ of memory (it is increasing as I type this), winword uses 30,020k, outlook uses 25,196k, yahoo messenger uses 24,572K.

44,000 is not bad for LimeWire but I am wondering did you have word and outlook open when you opened the task manager. I have Office 2003 and word uses 12,000 outlook uses 10,000. You are a little high on your memory usage on those 2 programs how much ram do you have and what CPU are you using.
