Default New connection, now limewire won't work

Limewire worked fine when I had dial up...now I have comcast and now limewire won't connect...I tried deleting all the preferences and chose a different modem...but it still won't work...I've done everything...I've followed many steps for firewall and whatever else but nothing works. I even uninstalled limwire and installed it again. What is wrong!?

Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. Connection type? (eg: broadband, cable, etc.)
4. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
5. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
6. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
7. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
8. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.

BTW it's my guess it's an issue with your modem/router. So please give details about this.

my answers:

2. Same firewall and setting I've always had (limewire worked then) It has a little shield, but it's not macfree or whatever that is
3. I now have comcast cable instead of dial-up...and ever since we got it (like two weeks ago) limewire doesn't work...maybe the comcast connection isn't very strong?

5. Home

You need to enable UPnP in your router and LimeWire Cisco Systems is a Linksys and it has a NAT firewall in it. The link below should help. There are instructions for configuring your router.

I am aware there's 3rd party companies that market Linksys devices (just put their own label on them.) And I suspect yours will be identical to the Linksys.

Make sure UPnP is turned on; see Linksys UPnP setting (click on link) as yours should be similar.

Then go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & check to make sure UPnP is checked. And also make sure the port numbers all match. Don't forget to press Apply button for any changes.

After opening LW, give it plenty of time to load & connect. Give it 20-30+ mins.

I have a suspicion the issue is this Cisco device. Failing UPnP, you can manually port forward the Cisco device, but let's get to that as a last resort.

Dash Grandpa you beat me this time! lol Either I'm getting slower or you're getting faster!

It's not the linksys website, what you're doing is logging into the Linksys device. It has software inside it which has settings options. Open your browser & in the address bar, type in 192.168.1.1 & that will open up your Linksys router. Yes you may need an admin password. You should already know what that is.

Your model is the same as the person in the link I gave & the same as the example given by Grandpa.

I am not sure here about Cisco your model number BEFSR41 that is a Linksys model number not a Cisco so it my guess is it is a Linksys router built for Cisco. I am not sure how you get into the admin page the link below will take you to the instructions for Cisco.
