why doesnt it just work, hm? why when you pay money to have something work, it doesnt? not speaking to directly anyone, but why do i need to know what a proxy is, or java, or my broad band router??? why do i need to have an AA in computer science just to have a p2p WORK??? sorry just frustrated. windows xp LW version: 4.10.0 pro; JAVA 1.5.0_01 dsl connection Modem/router brand & model number: i dont know what that is Any firewalls you have running: windows security? Who is your ISP: cable one? connecting from home this is my first try with LW i tried changing the port for my firewall, ive tried changing my proxy, ive logged in under everyone else who uses this computer. ive uninstalled, ive reinstalled, ive restarted my computer. ive followed directions that people say will fix my problem. but they dont. i dont even know what else, its too hard to retrace my steps. im sorry, i just really didnt think it would be so ridiculously hard to get a p2p, but now that ive paid them money im stuck with a program that doesnt work. i am crabby. |

It's frustrating when you pay for something which doesn't work as you'd hoped but...you could've got the basic version & not paid a cent Have you configured your firewall to allow LW access? http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml It's important to find out your modem/router info as this is often the cause of connection probs. Your modem is the thing that plugs into your comp & lets you connect to the net. Have a good look around at all your hardware. |

i already did that. it didnt work. i bought the pro version hoping that i wouldnt have to deal with any of this crap. it still doesnt work. its a 2wire lc_usb. whatever that means? its silver and shaped like a shark fin. if all else fails you think ill get my money back? For someone who doesn't really know how to use computers, good job on finding all that info about your PC. Anyway, there are a couple of reasons why LW works perfectly in some computer environments and needs a little more fiddling for others, but the gist is that every comp set up is differen and there can be factors that will hinder LW's functionality. Blah, blah. Whatever.... If all else fails you won't get your money back (as per the sayings of the messages you get before paying) so let's try and make this work, shall we? You say that you've tried changing the firewall port. Does that mean that you've tried to change the port in LW (by opening and going to the options, etc etc)? If not, try that. Here are some alternate ports, courtesy of the forums' cleaning lady: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=24523

If that doesn't work (or you have already tried it), try the more dangerous thing and completely disable your firewall just to see if LW wll connect. If that fails too, try opening LW, disconnecting (File->Disconnect) the re-connecting.

LW works fine for millions of people all over the world. A few have set up problems like you're having. 1. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? 2. Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) 3. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 4. 2wire lc_usb model number? 5. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 6. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 7. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)? 8. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. AFAIK 2wire devices don't use UPnP. But then again, USB devices are generally safe from this point. Have a look at your 2wire lc & see if there's a UPnP switch on the outside of it. Have you ever logged into your 2wire lc_usb device? Try typing each of these into your browser & tell us what happens: 1. http://172.16.0.1 & if that doesn't work then 2. http://gateway.2wire.net You should be able to log into your modem device & see what firewall options there are. See if there's a UPnP (Universal Plug & Play) option. |
