![]() I am a new LimeWire User (trying to be) and I can not connect for the first time. I am running WinXP Pro SP 2. I just keep scrolling through IP's in the connections tab (saying connecting). I may have one green bar on my connections icon but it is hard to tell. I do have a firewalled icon. I have a Linksys WRT54G Router, and Norton Anti-Virus 2006. I am not running Norton Firewall, but the Anti-virus has Internet Worm protection enabled. Windows XP Firewall is turned off. I also am running spybot spyware application. I am not sure which of the above is blocking me. I have been reading through the online help and forum, but nothing has worked yet. I found the port LImeWire is using, and I THINK I have allowed it in my router config. I also believe I have allowed it in Nortons internet worm protection config in both the Program Controls and General Sections. I did not see anywhere in Spybot to configure access. Does anyone know what I am missing? Please keep it very basic if possible. Thanks for your time!! John |

![]() Hi johncat222, Have you left your LW on for a while (say 1/2 hour) and given it a chance to settle down & connect? You say you've got both Win & Norton firewalls turned off - which one do you normally use (don't use the two together as they don't get on well)? Have a look here for instructions on configuring firewall: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml I don't think spybot will be blocking you, I've never heard of it doing this & it's never been a problem for me. Go to http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ This will tell you if the port that LW normally uses is being blocked. What does the test say? Your router has a built in SPI firewall, so that might be causing probs. Just give a little bit more info: Who is your ISP? What's your connection type ( adsl, dial-up etc) Where are you connecting from (home, work etc) Your LW & Java version(help > about LW and it'll tell you) |

![]() Thanks for the reply, Birdie. I have left LimeWire try to connect until it has quit trying. I did this 2 or 3 times. I do not have the program "Norton Firewall" installed. I only have Norton Antivirus 2006 which has "Internet Worm Protection" built in. I assume that acts as a firewall because if I remember correctly, every time I turn it on, it turns off Windows XP Firewall. I did try allow Limewire through "Internet Worm Protection" if I did it right. I did look at your first link below before posting with instructions on configuring a firewall, but since Win XP firewall is off, and I am not using any of the others, it didn't help too much. I did, however, find in there about how to get the LimeWire port and that is what I tried to allow in my router setup. Again, if I did it right. When I run the test below in your second link, it says "Your test worked!". I did go into my Linksys WRT54G router and try to allow the port there. I think I figured out the correct way to do that. As far as your request for Additional info, I am using WildBlue satellite internet as my ISP. I am connecting from home on a Pentium 4 desktop 2.4 GHZ with plenty of RAM, drive space, etc. LimeWire is version 4.10.0 and Java version is 1.5.0_03. Anything else? Thanks for replying to my post. ![]() Something else I just noticed, Birdy. I tried deleting my .LimeWire Directory, and while connecting, I noticed I get a pop-up that says "Your machine does not appear to have an active internet connection or a firewall is blocking LimeWire from accessing the internet. .....". I see my port changed, so I tried to go into my router and change it there and I see that the setting I put in lastnight did not save. So I may not be configuring my Linksys WRT54G router correctly. I get errors when I try to add the port, so apparently I do not know what I am doing with my router. Does anyone have any information on what I need to do with my router to allow LimeWire to connect (assuming that is where my problem is). Thanks. John |

![]() Birdy: I do have UPnP enabled in both LW and the router. I tried to set up port forwarding and for some reason my router is not saving changes. I need to figure that out. My ISP does allow P2P. I will work on the router issue and get back with you here if I still have trouble. Thanks for the assistance. John |

![]() Hi johncat222, Just remember to set up a static IP address first. Then set up your PF. Then tick manual port forward within LWs firewall config. This thread has a link to the port forward site for your router: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...399#post182399 |
