Firewall or Loopback Error Message I have a desktop, Windows XP, and it had limewire 4.8 and later 4.9 and it worked fine. Then, a little over a month ago limewire started malfunctioning. Every time I try to open limewire, it shows the opening screen and says, "LimeWire was unable to initialize and start. This is usually due to a firewall program blocking LimeWire's access to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine. Please allow LimeWire access to the internet and restart LimeWire." I tried the jar link and the c://documentsandsettings/use_name/.limewire advice, allowed limewire through my firewall and grutella yet nothing has worked it is like it is not even trying to connect. You seem to have a high success rate in solving problems yet I have not found the solution to this particular problem among the threads. 1. OS version? Windows XP 2. What firewalls you have? Windows Firewall (standard with XP) 3. Connection type? Broadband-DSL 4. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? DSL Router WindRiver WE8TELL Model# C90-610030-06 5. Where are you trying to connect from? Home 6. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? Limewire 4.10.00, Java 1.0 (I think) 7. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)? BellSouth using Explorer 8. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. NO 9. Other info Limewire was fully functional until our internet suffered a strange hiccough where we could not go online using Bellsouth. My husband reverted back to our old AOL service with which we had previously had no problems with limewire while using but this time was different. The above message appeared. We continued to use AOL until resetting all internet options to default which allowed us back online through Bellsouth. We have Bellsouth as our primary access to the internet. Most of the settings have been set back to the way they were before the glitch and it seems only limewire remains offline. |

Be patient. |
It's just I've gone through all of these questions before - I think a month is being pretty patient, but I apologize, I don't mean to insult the staff, I'm just frustrated |
There are no staff!!:D Questions are answered by other LW users. That's why it sometimes takes a while before someone gets around to helping you;) |
Kaminari The Link below may help there is more information in there about Windows firewall than you will ever want to know. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=875357 I can not find any Info on you model But I believe it is a Westell 6100 The link below will take you to the port forward set up page for the Westel 6100. Make sure you set up a static IP just follow the instructions. http://www.portforward.com/english/r...0/Limewire.htm |
Addrienne I went back and read you previous post you have not provided your Modem or router model name and number and yes the router can have a firewall in it. Also I noticed that you had to ask your dad for that information. So did your dad by pro for you or did you download it from the Internet. If you downloaded it from the Internet the odds are it is corrupt. And no matter what we have you do it will not fix it. |
