help ive tried lots of stuff from the forum but i still suck im getting that same message about firewalls and loopbacks as many of the other people on the forum ive tried turning off all the firewalls i could find deleting the .limewire preferences folder configuring the firewall port thing under the network settings to allow gnutella 6346 but so far nothing is working its odd because i downloaded limewire 4.9 maybe a week ago and it had the same problem in the beginning but after i logged out of my account on the the administrators and then back, the message wouldnt pop up anymore and it worked very well now we had to reset our computer using a backup hardrive thing the actual limewire program was deleted even though the installation program was still there and using both 4.9 and 4.10 it has the same pop up gahhhhhhhh can someone please help? |

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)? 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is. I've a suspicion your problem is your modem/router so we need to know what model it is. Also, if you have 2 firewalls, disable one of them. |

Here's my suggestion, manually forward a port thru your router! Take it or leave it lol Instructions: 1. Set up a Static ip (most important) 2. Forward a port Hawking Wireless-G HWR54G port forward instructions (click on link) (instructions for this & static ip included) 3. Within LW, Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that. 4. Disable XP's firewall: either (a) go to the control panel, double click on Windows Firewall, check the disable box. OR (b) http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...620#post178620 The reason for this is that XP & Norton FireWalls interfere with each other & affect LW's connection abilities. M$ & Norton & other firewall producers all advise against running 2 firewalls simultaneously for various reasons inclluding dthe possibility of less security as a result! 5. Configure Norton FW instead: * Configuring Norton Internet Security |
