mimi718,
Read the stickies (in red) at the top of this section. Read some of the threads here too, they might give you some answers. If not, they'll at least tell you what info you have to give if you want some help with your problem

Hi Addrienne,
Could you describe your set up:

OS (Win XP, 2000 etc)
LW & Java version (help > about LW & it will tell you)
Connection type (ADSL, dial-up etc)
Firewalls you have running
Where you connect from (home, work etc)
Modem/router brand & model
ISP
Is this your 1st try at using LW

You said you'd configured your firewall already. Go to
http://www3.limewire.com:6346
Did the test work?

Ok, if you're running XP & Norton firewalls together...don't!
Disable your XP firewall & if you haven't already done it, configure Norton to allow LW access.

It's important to know the brand & model of your modem or router. A lot of routers act like a firewall & you might have to forward a port so LW can connect. Have a look at all your hardware & see if you can find out that info.

I don't know what kind of router - I can ask my father - but, he says he thinks it's the spy sweeper or Norton -
When I go into Lime Wire it has the little logo with a firewall over it - does the router have a firewall?

Spysweeper & Norton are programs. A router is an electrical device that forwards data along networks. It's a piece of hardware. So have a look at all the stuff that plugs into your computer (mine is a modem & router combo that looks like a flat black box).

Lots of routers cause firewall probs, that's why it's so important to find out what yours is. If you're not sure, get your Dad to help you look. He might have a manual for it somewhere & that'll have the brand & model in it
