![]() First, I'll give the specs that I've seen requested on other threads: Total description of set up: 1. OS version? Windows 98 2. What firewalls you have? HAD Norton, HAVE none. 3. Connection type? DSL 4. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Do not know. Tell me how to find it & I'll look, though. 5. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? Home. 6. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. Limewire: 4.10 Jave: 1.5.0_06 7. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)? I use "Bring your own access" via AOL. Access provided by sbc 8. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. NO on both counts. 9. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? My test worked. Here are the details. I downloaded Limewire on Monday. I installed it and it actually worked. I managed to up & download a number of files... Legally, of course. It worked for HOURS. At that time, I had Norton's Firewall 2004 installed, and it did not cause ANY problems at that time. Tuesday, I went in and it would not let me connect... I got the whole "no conection...firewall" message. So, I deleted the firewall via add/remove programs. My subscription was within 2 weeks of expiring anyway, and I planned on getting a better one. So, no loss. For the last 2 days, however, I have STILL been unable to gain access. I still get the same "no connection... firewall" message. I've tried everything *I* know. I have removed and installed Limewire 2 or 3 times, now. No luck. I removed the .limewire folder a little while ago, after reading the suggestion on another thread. I no longer get the "no connection... firewall" message, however it IS STILL NOT CONNECTING. I would really appreciate any assistance given. Thank you! Eric |

![]() If you use DSL then you'll have a dsl modem or router. So ... look for it ... it will be connected to your computer. It will be in a small box. It should show the brand & model on the top, side or bottom of the unit. Tell us if it's a USB or ethernet version. BTW the new LW preferences for the new version are found in a new location. But I suspect your problem is the modem/router. BTW Norton is fine so long as it's configured properly for LW & you should have such protection, see * Configuring Norton Internet Security |

![]() Duh. Brainfart.. Okay, let's see... It's Ethernet. 2Wire HomePortal 1000HW Does that help? It was the Freebie that SBC sent me for signing up for their DSL service. I was wondering if the problem (now) might be with the Norton Antivirus? I've heard a LOT of complaints about it NOT being a clean uninstall. When I couldn't get onto LimeWire, I tried to adjust the settings in the Firewall but, when I tried to open the program, it wouldn't open. That was why I deleted the software, instead of changing the settings. If something unfortunate happened to the software, and it fuc...err... MESSED up, is it possible that an uninstall that wasn't "clean" could leave some sort of settings in there to thwart it? I downloaded eBay's TurboLister program tonight so I could sell a few things swiftly. When you first try to run it, you have to connect to the internet so it can share some info with the eBay site. When I tried to do that, it said I had no internet connection (both WITH and WITHOUT AOL signed on). Would it help or hurt if I downloaded the free AOL Firewall & tried to use the settings on it? Perhaps the settings for the NEW firewall would override the remaining settings from the old one (if that is what the problem is)? Thanks for the assistance! Eric |

![]() I don't recommend anything from AOL. Their security devices use an unfriendly out of date spyware killer that removes LW. The reason is the program doesn't work properly. There's much better free firewalls. See a list from here WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of! (click on link) I have no idea whether that 2wire device uses UPnP or not. If not then you're better off manually port forwarding. That should solve your problems. Steps: 1. Most important step: Set up a static ip (instructions in link below. 2. Forward port 6346; you'll find your model at the top-left corner of this page: http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm & then after clicking on your model, look for limewire on the list. Then follow all directions including the static ip step which is most important for it to work properly. 3. Within LW, Manual port forward instructions & sample image & 2 posts after that. I have seen that the 2Wire Homeportal 1000HW 3.1.0,3.3.0,3.3.1 are supposed to be UPnP capable. So after you log into your device, check to see the UPnP option. If you have it, then enable it & that will save you from doing manual port forwarding. As you can see you may need a firmware update to have UPnP capabilities if your version is less than that listed. Last edited by Lord of the Rings; January 5th, 2006 at 10:29 PM. |

![]() First, LotR, let me thank you again. I got my 2Wire port forwarding done. I got the port change within LimeWire done. It still does not connect. There was no static IP step in the instructions on PortForward as seen in the link: http://www.portforward.com/english/r...w/Limewire.htm Could that be part of the remaining problem? Also, there was no place that I could find in my router settings for UPnP. I'm running 3.5.5 which, it says, is the most current software. ::sigh:: Any other suggestions, aside from wiping everything out & starting from scratch? Thanks again! Eric |
