![]() I live in a university residence & connect to the internet through the uni's network. Using this network, i can't connect to Limewire Pro. I have broadband & use Windows XP. I don't know who the service provider is & i've already configured my firewall (ZoneAlarm Pro). If it's any help, I am also having problems connecting to other download programs (i.e. BitTorrent, mIrc). I think my network provider might be blocking these type of programs, but i wanted to hear your views first, before i approached them. Thanks in advance for any help ![]() |

![]() I'm having the same problems. It's not actually broadband, and I don't believe there is an ISP as such. I hear rumours of people managing it in my halls, but don't know how. I do know POP3 is blocked, therefore outlook doesn't work. Connection is around 600kb/s, seems an awful waste. |

![]() Universities & even residences that may go thru the uni's own bandwidth are tending to block or shape it to stop p2p use. Here's an example of how a p2p bandwidth shaper can work against Gnutella: Bandwidth Shaper Sample (click on link) ie: giving priority to net surfing & low priorities to p2p sharing. EDIT: Sorry that link doesn't seem to work any more!!! Ah .. found it ... they moved it: http://www2.iwu.edu/IT/help/helpdesk/shaper.shtml It's hard to know whether you're affected by this type of thing or not. You can try different ports or proxies, etc. But some of these shaper programs will also detect the program or protocol it uses. |
