theres really no problem at all outside of limewire with downloading. We connect to the internet great. However, when it comes to limewire itself its like it now struggles to find any hosts for any files and when it finally does it struggles to keep the host where it once could have up to 8+ hosts and download up to 28+kb/s with limewire. As much as I love limewire I'm kind of thinking of trying another program... just to see if its the same. Cause we really have no problem outside of limewire with downloading / connecting and surfing the net etc.

You have by far one of the most difficult modem/routers I have ever seen to set up. Below is a link to there web site if it were me I would go to there support page and ask them how to set it up. I looked at the user guide 10MB in size and I still am confused on how to set it up.

Sorry, I meant your connection within LW. Are you still firewalled? Can anyone download from you?

what's your set up:
O/System
Connection type
LW & Java version (help > about LW & it'll tell you)
We know you're modem's a speedtouch 536
Only the Norton firewall that's been configured??
ISP
Where you connect from (home, work etc)
Is this your first try with LW

yeah, the connection within lw is still firewalled... its really annoying.

what's your set up:
O/System -----------> WINDOWS XP HOME
Connection type -------------> UM..BROADBAND ADSL ?
LW & Java version (help > about LW & it'll tell you) ------> JAVA 1.5.0 AND LIMEWIRE 4.10

We know you're modem's a speedtouch 536
Only the Norton firewall that's been configured??----> YEAH, NOW I DID WINDOWS XP FIREWALL BUT WITH NO CHANGE I TURNED IT BACK OFF AND DELETED THE GNUTELLA AND JAVA CHANGES TO. SO YEAH, CURRENTLY ONLY NORTON.

ISP -----------> TELSTRA, BIGPOND

Where you connect from (home, work etc) ---> HOME
Is this your first try with LW ---> NO, have used it many a time before.

** I've reinstalled my modem to see if that would help and trully no change.

A few questions though, if you could help.. does Norton normally work alongside windows firewall ?? like if you turn windows firewall off will it still normally tell you that it can still see your using nortons firewall.? and also if i add gnutella to my 'game and application sharing' found in my speedtouch options section...will this help or hinder my efforts in connecting to limewire??

thanks for all your help to date guys.

There is one thing I would like you to do. I need to know if you have Norton configured correctly the only way I know of doing this without being there is to un install Norton. What you can do is go to the link below and download Avast anti virus it is free save it to your hard drive then un install Norton then install Avast and turn on Windows firewall. Now with that done follow the instructions below and un install Java and LimeWire.

When you re install if the windows firewall is blocking LimeWire it should pop up and ask if you want to allow it to connect to the Internet click allow if it does. if the problem still exist after this is done then the problem has to be elsewhere like you modem or ISP etc.

Don't get me wrong I think Norton is a good program I just want to see if that is the problem. You can re install it after you run a couple of test.

You will need to install Java and LimeWire manually First go to the first link.You can find Links to java in there Download Java to your hard drive by putting a mark in the save to disc box. Save it to my documents or wherever you save downloads from the internet. Do the same with LimeWire the second link will take you there.

Now with that done click on start then control panel add/remove programs and see if Java is listed on the list if it is uninstall it. Do the same with LimeWire if the un installers were not loaded you may have to manually delete the files. But in most cases this is not necessary.

Now click on the Java installer you saved to your hard drive and follow the instructions after you have completed that do the same with LimeWire.

Please post back and let us know if it worked. If it did not I will give further instructions on manually deleting Java and LimeWire.

Hey ,
My Limewire is showing that a Firewall has been detected, although my XP Firewall is off and I have even tried the link http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ and the test worked. But my limewire still has the same message and the icon of the firewall detection. SOS
Thanx
