If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. New User Connection Problems I've recently downloaded limewire pro on my computer at college via lan connection. I use windows xp and my computer is only about 4 months old. Every time I attempt to connect to LW, I either get a temporary poor connection or no connection at all. It tells me that there is a firewall that is preventing LW from connecting. Mcafee is the only firewall I use and I've configured that to allow any traffic from limewire, and I don't use my windows firewall but I made sure to configure the ports anyway as shown in the troubleshooting. I thought that my college's connection may not allow p2p, but I live with plenty of friends that use various p2p programs without a problem. If anybody could help me out with some solutions I'd really appreciate it. Thanks |

Read through this: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=51357 It's good you've got your Win firewall off, you shouldn't run 2 firewalls together. Do the port test in the thread. Pay attention to the parts about UPnP. If your router uses UPnP then it has to be enabled both within the router & within LW (tools > ooptions > advanced > firewall config. Tick 'use UPnP' then apply). |

Try these fixes for LW: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=36420 What was your port test result? |

My port test was successful and I have Java 1.5.0_04. I attempted to delete my LW preferences folder, but I could not find one. I made sure to show hidden files, but the only thing that came up was temp files, and there weren't any folders. As far as repairing the program, it only allows me to uninstall it. I don't have any option to repair it out of add/remove programs. I've changed the compatibility setting to windows 2000, and I currently am the administrator on my computer. I still have no success in connecting. |

Did you say you're at university or college or something? You didn't seem to read the instructions very well. It says at the top of point 4 that Repair does not apply to version 4.4 or later. If you have set up options for LW such as when you 1st installed LW, there should be some preferences somewhere. Either search .limewire or limewire. Just because your friends can use some p2p networks doesn't mean Gnutella network isn't being shaped or blocked. Since LW is so popular nowadays, they might be only aiming at blocking LW. Most schools do this nowadays since they pay big money for bandwidth. p2p uses a lot of bandwidth. *** Windows XP has its own firewall!!! So go to your control panel & open up the XP firewall & tick disable option. Then configure McAffee firewall as described by birdy's link. You need to do this!!! Open LW, set the option under connections to not connect after system startup. Tools>Options>Connections. Make sure LW is not trying to connect. Go to menu bar, File>Disconnect. Then wait 10 mins or so, then go to menu bar, File>Connect. Give it lots of time to try to connect. If no good, close LW & try again. If still no luck, change the port number. Try a port no. like 64049 or 80. ie: Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change both port options. You may need to set it to manual port forward to change this connection port. Try above again. If no good, try options below. A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 1 - 3 which have links to alternative instructions. |

I continued the search on my computer and found LW files but no preferences under any catagory. I didn't think that my school blocks gnutella because I have a friend down the hall from me that uses limewire as well, and my other friends use bearshare and ares. My firewalls are all configured, my xp is disabled and my mcafee is set to allow LW. Just to be sure that it wasn't mcafee I tried to connect without a firewall and it still wouldn't. I disabled the autoconnect on start up process and that didn't work either. Would you recommend going with the next step and setting up a proxy? I mean I never really used one before and I was just making seeing if I should have any concerns. Thanks. |

I've finally found my preferences file. I deleted it but no help. I'll trying anything that i can to get this to work. I was just curious, if I were to use a separate router out of my wall connection at school, and forward my connection through that would it make a difference? Is there any particular way to go about setting up a proxy, other that looking up free ones and using trial and error? |
