Finally found what's wrong! (but still need help)
 

Ok...

Many thanks for LOTR for his help earlier, but i've got the issue.

Got so sick of having problems with all P2P clients that I went right into the guts of Windows, and to the Add/Remove Windows components panel.

Went through, and found that the Networking Components checkbox was grey, clicked details and found that P2P was unchecked.

I got all excited (as you do), checked the box, and proceeded to try and install the component.

BUT THEN:

I had the joy of this error message, halfway through it installing:

As usual, the error message is provided with MS's usual level of helpfulness and detail.

What can I do to get it to install? This is obviously the issue.

Do you mean the UPnP installation? If yes, according to this page you "might" need your installation CD at that time: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u..._02july22.mspx
By default, XP's UPnP component is generally already on by default. But it might not be for you.

No, not UPnP, P2P.

See: Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Add/Remove windows components > Networking Components (or services?) > Details.

I'll try again with the disc in, and tell you what happens. My only concern is that my XP is SP2 and my disc is an OEM SP0 from Dell.

I am not sure on that error message - It seems others have had problems, but no solution has been found - Example URLs at the end of this post.

The Peer to Peer services component of Networking should be left unticked and uninstalled, as it is like this by default - it is not needed to run P2P software as Limewire.

The Peer to Peer component is only needed if you are setting up an ad-hoc or Peer to Peer LAN.

I do not even see the link between the error message and installation of a P2P like LW. If it is a Windows component, it is probably a MSN type of service, and I do not see how it should appear upon a P2P uninstall...

Bottom line, if it does while uninstalling LW, your PC is due to reformat.

Oh ok. Looks like i'm back to square one then.

Limewire doesn't connect. Azureus comes up with a couple of errors on startup. Everything else (bar my BT mouse, lol) works fine.

Agreed, whether or not you have this component installed or not, is not related to your Limewire problems.

The app you are trying to install is not included on the disk it is a add on you can get it at the link below. There is information about what it is at the link. It is not something you need for apps like LimeWire. It is basically for setting up a Windows P2P network from what I read doing a quick scan of the article. If you want to install it you will need to DL the Windows Peer- to- Peer SDK advanced networking pack at the link below.
