You should not run more than one firewall at one time. Even the makers of firewalls recommend against this as they can clash, not work properly & even result in less security. Choose one & disable the other. Norton FW is very good. Also remember Windows XP has its own firewall so disable that one as it's not very good anyway compared to the others.

For norton, see Configuring Norton Internet Security

Lightbulb Im not sure about my firewall.

Thanks to lord of the rings for the last reply and i hope not to disturb but i think there was a misunderstanding about my firewall, the think is i installed the norton antivirus 2006 in my pc but is not i firewall, the thing is that program runs with an special sevice of bugs control in the p2p programs plus trojans etc, im not sure if it is a firewall, by the otherside i own a firewall (Zone alarm very popular) and i dont know what to do for better results on my machine, coz i urned off the zone alarm and its still working slow.
Thanks for your attention.
hope not to be bad expresed.

That's ok. Then make sure XP firewall is disabled & Zonealarm is properly configure to allow LW full access. You shouldn't run without a firewall, just make sure it's properly configured for LW to operate properly. See Connection problems? Check here first!

1. After LW's been open for at least 15 mins, do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False?

2. Downld a magnet link file from here: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml & tell us what happens. What speeds do you get?

3. Whilst LW is closed, do a speed test. Find one nearest to you here: http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/speedtest/

4. Who is your internet service provider (ISP)?

5. BTW you should not use the internet without a firewall. Instead, configure it to allow LW full passage thru. See Connection problems? Check here first! (XP has its own firewall.)

I'm a little lost. Perhaps we can start with your set up.

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.

BTW it sounds to me with a false incoming report that either your firewall isn't set up properly or ... the problem is your modem/router configuration.

Recheck, is that a Motoralla SB5100 or SBG1000?

Do you use it in USB or ethernet cable mode? BTW ethernet is much faster & more reliable.

You stated at the beginning that problems started after installing Norton AV. Check your norton options to make sure there's no way LW is restricted in any way. Also make sure there's not firewall also. If there is then you'll need to decide between Norton FW & McAffee FW. XP firewall should be off!!!

Norton AV might slow down verification of downlds but shouldn't affect actual downld speeds! Contol-Alt-Del & see what apps are running. See if there's more than one Norton activity.

BTW double-check your mcafee settings. Make sure any port settings in your FW match those in your LW program under LW's menu, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls
