Trouble Connecting to Limewire after installing Napster...

Here is my problem, I looked around and I could not find a solution to it so I hope this wasn't post twice. Also I'm new here. :)

Ok two nights ago I downloaded Napster.
Before that I could log onto Limewire with no trouble.
Now tonight while I tried to log on, I can't

This is the error message I am getting:

That I don't have an active internet connection and that my firewall might be blocking it.

That isn't true because I have internet connection and I can log onto aol and my messangers just fine. Also, I checked my firewall and it's set to permit all.

Did naspter mess up my connection? What went wrong?
Can someone help me?

Does Napster use the same port as LW? Does your modem/router use UPnP or is it manually port forwarded? See Connection problems? Check here first!

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do you run both Napster & LW at the same time?
12. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

Before I begin, this is the actual error message I get:

"Your machine does not appear to have an active Internet Connection or firewall is blocking LimeWire From The Internet. LimeWire will automatically keep trying to connect to network unless you select Disconnect from the File Menu."

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
I have Windows XP Home Edition

2. What firewalls you have?
Norton (Checked this and Limewire is "Permited All")

3. How much ram?
448 MB "This was never a problem"

4. Hard Disk space available?
8.44 GB

5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
Cable

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
LinkSys WRT54G Ver. 5
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
Home

8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
LimeWire 4.10.5, Java 1.4.2_03

9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
Optimum Online

10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
Yes, wireless

11. Do you run both Napster & LW at the same time?
I never had a chance to do this lol.

12. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
It does say "Your Test Worked!" :/

1. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included.)

If that doesn't work, then check these other options.

Make sure your XP firewall is turned off. This will cause a problem if run alongside Norton FW.

Your model router is known to be unreliable. Linksys are generally very good but I've seen a no. of problems on this & another forum. UPnP is the problem. It doesn't seem to run reliably on that model. I don't know about your firmware version but either update it or else, consider manual port forwarding instead. Instructions are in the very 1st link I gave you in my previous post. ;)

Ok, I did everything that was on the list, still nothing happened! My UPnP is enable the whole time. What is going on here? :(

This all started when I downloaded napster. what else can I do! :(
I am so upset, I need to get on LimeWire asap! :(

How about uninstalling Napster to see if things improve.

Try downlding a magnet link file from here http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml & tell us what happens.

As I mentioned earlier, your model of linksys is known to have issues. It might be safer to manually port forward it. See the 1st link I gave in my 1st post.

It says "waiting on busy host"
then it says "need more sources"

Which one is the safer manually port one?

I also, took out Napster, and it's the same thing! :(

It doesn't sound good at all. I wonder if Optimum online have changed their policies. There have been reports before. See http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=52643

My apologies, I must have been a bit slow today; also see ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire

I suspect forwarding your port won't make any difference. :(

OK! OMG! If Optinum Online blocked p2p connections I will be so mad!!!!!!
I took off my router and hooked it up to just the cable modem, and it did the same thing!
What can I do now? :(

Make a very loud noise at Optimum. But politely usually works best. But be incessant to the point with them. The technicians are probably the ones who can change things. People who answer on the phone initially probably won't know about this or what to do. They'll probably give any excuse to get you off the phone.

There's too many links on the forum to quote them all, but search the word optimum on the forum using the search button above right, & you'll find previous discussions about this isp. You'll also find posts by a member of Optimum. You might be able to get some ideas from there also. Most of this was happening around December I think.

BTW I guess you saw this one http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...=&pagenumber=1 about them.
