Cannot Connect to Lime Wire
 

I have been connecting fine until just a few days ago using 1.6b. I thought maybe I would find the answer in the FAQs and troubleshooting areas but I didn't. I downloaded 1.8 and still cannot connect. Is there something wrong with Lime Wire and Bearshare?

Better check with your internet server. My internet server Cable America has blocked the port (1214) that supplies the connections for LimeWire. If that port is blocked you cannot connect to LimeWire or any other program like it

Actually, I think LW uses 6346 and a few others. So do other gnutella clients.

I understand that LW uses port 6346, but it is the cable company's port 1214 that supplies LW to it's customers and they have closed the port until further notice. They think they are the FCC and the internet police.

It appears that you are quite correct cldhrt...What can we do about Cable America doing this...The main reason I went high speed was so I could share peer to peer capabilities. I kind of figured this out yesterday when I could dial in from my other computer and was able to connect. No one likes surfing the net slowly but I guess I will if Cable America doesn't let go of the port.

i called a minute ago, they basicly said these programs let 1% of the users take up 80% of the bandwidth. I felt like they would rather not have me for a customer. they also said it wasn't going to change anytime soon. bearshare doesn't work either... help
