Question Fire and Lime

I just recently purchased Limewire becaue the courts have finaly caught up to Grokster which I was dedicated to for the past five years and never had a single problem with. As I said I PURCHASED Limewire the Pro version and now I can't get passed this Firewall issue that I see many others using this app are going through. The following will describe the troublshooting procedures and the makeup of my computer:

- I am using WinXP SP2 with Norton Internet Security. I am also using a router, WR850G by Motorola, which is only used for two computers including my own in my house.

- I have disabled the Windows version of firewall protection, disabled the router firewall protection, and have Norton Personal Firewall enabled. I gave the Limewire app a "Permit All" status for my firewall as well as all the "javaw.exe" files I can find on my computer. Limewire suggest that I go ahead permit and permit that, but never gave a specific destination on my comp where I can find THEE javaw.exe file that should be given the Permit All status.

- I disabled Norton Protection all together and still no joy.

- On my router I enabled the UpNp option.

- I have updated the firmware for my WR850G router by Motorola

- I have deleted the limewire file on my computer which will reset the settings to the Limewire app. I have also uninstalled limewire and reinstalled it.

- I have even attempted to plug my computer up directly to the cable modem without the router being the middle man.

In closing it appears that I have tried everything. I don't know what else can be done. Can SOMEONE PLEASE help me out with this issue. This is very disturbing to me now that I've spent eighteen dollars to get a masters degree in Limewire troublshooting.

Please excuse the repeats of what you've already supplied but this is a standard set of questions I use:
Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

I must say, "off-hand" it sounds like an isp issue. But let's see 1st.

1. Windows XP SP2

2. I have Norton Internet Security utilizing the Norton Personal Firewall

3. 504MB Ram - 3.00GHz Pentium 4

4. 143GB Total Hard Disk Space/ 111 GB of Hard Disk Space Avail.

5. I am connected through a dedicated line - Cable Internet

6. I'm using a WR850GV2 by Motorola. Just updated the firmware to 6.4.1

7. I'm trying to connect from home.

8. I'm using Limewire 4.10.5 Pro/ Java Version 1.5.0_03

9. My Internet Service provider is Optimum Online a product of Cablevision here in NJ/and some parts of NY

10. I am sharing the internet connection with one other computer in the house through the router previously mentioned. I did nothing special to the router, but enable the UpNp option. I just simply hooked up the connections like so:

- Cable Modem connected to cable line.
- Router connected to cable modem
- Computer 1 (my computer) and computer 2( other
computer in the house) connected to two of the
four available Local Network ports on the back of
the router.

It was simple plug and play with the router. Nothing to tweak at all for either computer to access the internet.

11. The test came up "Your test worked!"

Is that good of a description for you? Let me know what's up - Thx for your interest.

There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with your set up. But take a look at this next link b/c I suspect this is your problem ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire

I went ahead and checked out some of the post about optimum online and some of the alternatives. I went ahead and attempted the thw how sock v5, Manual Port Forward mumbo jumbo and that didn't come through for me. I just gave the guys from my ISP a call about the issue and to see if they were blocking gnutella ports and specificaly limwire, but the rep said that as far as he knew they weren't blocking anything. He said that the issue was pushed up to higher mgmt, but he never got a reply back from them. The ISP rep. mention that he had a ton of calls the past months about the same issue. He happened to be from Long Island and he said HIS Limewire was working well. It looks like I'm just out of my eighteen dollars. Time to blow the dust off and see if I can still squeeze a little more time out of my old pal Grokster. Thanks for your support man, but rest assured I'll still keep on working with limewire - I hate wasting money.
