Default Called Optimum

Just to let you all know, I just finished calling Optimum Online (OOL) support. Here's what happened:

1) I was told that a filter existed becuase I have exceeded the amount allowed. When I asked about that limit amount so I may keep an eye out on the amount I download, they stated there is no set limit amount. That's when I commented, how is one to not exceed a given amount if they won't tell me what the limit is, so as to monitor my thru-put. He then checked with his supervisor.

2) After checking with higher in command, I was told that the problem is not with OOL, it is with Limwire. When I explained that it can't be becuase my brother using LW on Verizon's DSL has no issues with it. The same with a niehbor's Dish internet service. I further explained that user's from NY/NJ area are having issues with LW firewalls. He once again consulted with his supervisor.

3) The techy came back on and told me that they are not aware of any outages that would effect these services. I told him that this is not a new issue, that guys in LI have reported this since mid December. He once again put me on hold.

4) He and his supervisor have never heard of this. I once again told him I'm not the only one and I gave him the link to this forum, and they said they would look into it. He told me to keep checking the OOL website and tech pages until this problem is resolved.

So, either I'm the first one to report this problem to them or they are really convinced that this is a LW problem. All in all, I found them very forward going. I will call them again in about two days... this time I'll right down names.

Need LW!!!

Thanks for the response, I think lot of people will want to know how OOL are responding to this issue. If you use the forum search button above & type in the word Optimum then you'll find all the other threads regarding this issue. There's a no. of them, & a lot of people who have responded (which doesn't take into account the no. of people who have visited those threads without responding despite it related to them - be they guests or members of the forum.)

Not totally related but a discussion by people in regards to a similar topic, see http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum...fm/453605.html which discusses reasons why some USA ISP's are under pressure to limit bandwidth because they're simply running out of it for consistent offerings. So the so-called unlimited is somehow becoming limited because the isp is feeling the pinch during peak use. But they fabribate reasons because otherwise they'd be in breach of contract with you in what they're 'supposed' to be offering & "actually" supplying you.

In most parts of the world, breach of contract means they should refund you what you paid since they're not upkeeping what they were offering in their contract. They made the offer, you accepted!!! That is the basis of any contract. They advertised their terms of service. They're not upkeeping their side of the contract. They're secretly shaping your p2p use. If you were using a net game or video conferencing which also use high bandwidth, then it may well be the same. USA isp's also put gamers under pressure. They receive the exact same types of issues. I've seen many such issues on their gaming forums.

Edit: They'd be quick & happy to announce to you if you breached your contract with them. But they're not about to announce to you or make anything obvious about breaching their contract with you! To the contrary! Particularly since they were the offerers of the contract.

If you can, switch away from Optimum, market share/revenue will play against them.

You know whats the funny part I when I told them yesterday About my problem that they were aware of this problem and stuff so as someone in another topic stated while I was talking to the guy I was reciving signal and all this stuff my thing was turbo but then my download speed was at 200kb at first then it kept lowering and lowering until the thing just died and all my files I tried to download would all say need more sources and Im like how the heck can every single file I download need sources then I close LW completely come back again the LW cant connect no more What I am saying is they are trying to convince us is that the problem is with limewire and not with them but that wont work on me because that makes no sense that everytime I talk to them I start to get signal and then it stops. Thats why later today I will be making a call

I called ool 2/13/06 and they were like it wasn't them. The 1st call the guy said he was gonna make a note of it W/E...
But then they called me back like 3 times including today 2/15 they said it was them and for me to try to connect, but still nothing. The guy told me they were working on it , that it should be resolved soon.
Lets see what happens.

From an observation point, generally these issues are caused by the ISP using a special program to filter p2p programs. So if it really is going to stop, they need to disable this program. Here's a few examples of typical programs they use to counter p2p use: 1. http://www.sandvine.com/products/p2p_element.asp,
2. http://www.ipp2p.org/docu_en.html, 3. http://www.p-cube.com/new_solutions/traffic_P2P.shtml

This issue has been going on now since Nov/Dec, so it seems to me they're just playing you all around for time. Just my thoughts. But see if they do decide to do anything practical.

If you can get exact details (such a bad router, circuit down, or upgrades in progress, etc) would be grate. This way those of us that do call would have some ammo.

It just seems (IMO) that someone over there fell asleep on the wrong button.
