jrolson85 & bclubbabe22, Read through this thread. Don't turn your firewall off, just set it up so that LW can work (but only 1 firewall, never 2 at once), instructions are in here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=51357 Read all the info about UPnP, if your routers support UPnP then turn it on & wihin LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Tick use UPnP & apply. Read all the info about modem/routers having internal firewalls, you might need to manually port forward (jrolson85, did you make sure to set up a static IP first?). Do the port test & see what result you get. Start with this & see how you go |

Ok I found out all my programs that run on Java dont connect, so I reinstalled Java and they still dont work, so do I have to add something to my firewall list? I added javaw.exe but they still dont connect anything else to add? |

Simply enable UPnP on your Linksys & that should be fine. Yes you should keep the NAT firewall on for your own protection. Otherwise there's people/organisations who could access your computer which Norton could not prevent. There's instructions for enabling UPnP for Linksys in the link I gave above. |

Fixed my problem, Followed these steps and it works! Thanks guys! The default firmware for Linksys (and all replacement firmwares except for one) have a severe problem where they track old connections for FIVE days, which causes the router to hang when using P2P apps, or any software that generates a lot of connections. DHT only aggravates the situation because of the number of connections it generates. Linksys has yet to address this issue, but there is a fix. If you use alternative firmware, you can put in a start-up script to fix this problem. Goto http://www.polarcloud.com/tofu/ and download the latest firmware for your Linksys WRT54G/GL or WRTSL54GS router. Go to the web interface (default password is admin) by typing http://192.168.1.1 into your browser. Click Administration, then Edit Startup. Put the following commands in the box: echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_broadcasts echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_ignore_bogus_error_responses echo "600 1800 120 60 120 120 10 60 30 120" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_conntrack_tcp_timeouts Click Save, close the window, then click Save settings. Reboot the router (the Administration page has a Reboot button) and you'll be done. Last edited by jrolson85; March 13th, 2006 at 02:17 PM. |

Xcellent! I'm very glad to hear you solved your issue. I'll definitely make a note of your post. Thank you very much jrolson85!!! I'm aware the WRT54G has issues which normally aren't always easily fixed. And upgrading the firmware is one way to improve things. In fact, I'll put a link to your post in the link for router issues. Thank you. |
