Can't Connect to LimeWire

I can't seem to connect to LimeWire for the past two weeks now. I have not done anything major to my computer system except install UPS unit.

I've tried to do all things listed in STICKY post.

I am running Win XP SP2, Norton's Antivirus 2005, and I have broadband internet. My internet connection has no problem in me using LimeWire.

Please Assist.

Were you able to connect before that 2 weeks?

Did you enable UPnP on your modem/router? If your device doesn't support UPnP then port forwarding is the way to go. Instructions for these here, check the whole page Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)

Did you disable XP's firewall? And you saw this Configuring Norton Internet Security

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.

1. Windows XP SP2
2. Only Windows Firewall
3. 512 x 2 DDR 400mhz
4. I have two : 80gig h/drives.
5. Broadband
6. Don't Know?
7. Home
8. Latest Version of LW and Java. Updated it on Saturday.
9. Metrofone in South Africa
10. No, only use Limewire p2p.
11. Yes, it works! 'Your test worked!' - shows on my screen.
12. I have been using Limewire since December 2005 and no problems so far. It only began about two weeks ago when I can't connect.

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) Then try opening LW again.

Do you run any anti-spyware or anti-adware programs?

I've a suspicion the problem is your ISP. The best way to find out would be to try another gnutella program such as either FrostWire, Phex or Bearshare Lite.

I've deleted the .limewire folder. Still now connection. Are these other Gnutella programs free to use. Or do I have to pay again to use it.

Free to use. FrostWire which is almost the same as LW, get it here http://www.frostwire.com/static/downloads.html

Or else try Phex from here http://phex.kouk.de/mambo/content/view/17/29/

Else Bearshare Lite http://www.filehippo.com/download_bearshare_lite/

i'd prefer to stick to LW, My connection brand is D-Link. I tried using Frostwire and it gives same error, says connecting. I even tried to disable the firewall but LW still don't work.

Tried re-installation of LW.

Please Assist :(

Same here

I couldn't get connected for the last week. I did something way diferent. I unninstalled LimeWire and left it off of my computer for a couple hours, and then i reinstalled it and then it actually started working again. Before i was only leaving it off for 10 minutes or so.

Ahah! You didn't tell us earlier. lol :D Yes I also have a D-Link & for my model I am forced to manually port forward. Unless you have a later model than mine, you will also need to manually port forward. Follow the instructions here http://portforward.com/routers.htm & find your model, then after clicking on the link, find LimeWire on the list of programs. Then following the steps carefully starting with setting up a static ip which is most important or else the process won't work. ;)

Don't forget to ensure XP's firewall is configured to allow LW full access.

My subscriber refuses to give me my router/connection brand. How do I find out on my pc what my model no. is.

I don't think its DLink, he mentioned something like Cenayo etc. - - something with a C.
