Default Can't connect all of a sudden..

I never had trouble connecting to Limewire and now all of a sudden it says that I'm behind a firewall and it can't connect.

About 2 days ago, I had to reset my connection and request a new IP (because of some problem with my ISP) and that's when the problems began.

I already looked at the sticky thread on the top of this forum and nothing works for me.

I also have Norton Personal Firewall 2006 and the settings have always been to Permit All connections for Limewire. I even tried turning off my firewall for 5 minutes and Limewire still didn't connect. It still said that there's a firewall turned on.

I also have a Netgear WGR614 v6 router that I don't know if it even has a firewall to turn off.

I don't know what to do..

Your router has both SPI & NAT firewalls. It also supports UPnP. What I'd suggest is making sure UPnP is enabled within the router, then tick it within LW (tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Tick 'use UPnP' & apply). See if that fixes things. Give LW a good 1/2 hour to settle down, see if it's connected after that time.

If that doesn't help, you can port forward.
Step 1. Set up a static IP address. Do not skip this part!
http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm

Step 2. Port forward
http://www.portforward.com/english/r...4/Limewire.htm

Step 3. Select manual p/f within LW. Tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Tick 'manual port forward'. Put in the number of your listening port. Apply.

The UPnP setting on my router is enabled and that doesn't help it connect.

For the static IP, is this going to mess up my connection in any way?

I just set up a static IP and I did that port forwarding thing and Limewire still tells me that my computer is behind a firewall and it can't connect.

Are you sure that your Norton firewall is configured properly?

How long since you set up port forwarding? Sometimes it takes a little while for LW to settle down & connect.

My firewall is properly configured, I try port-forwarding, I tried switching ports, I dunno what else to do. I have Optimum Online btw and I read the threads you recommended that I read and I tried everything in them.

For my router configuration, if I choose manual and not UPnP (I tried UPnP and it doesn't work) does the port I choose have to be the same one as the Listening Port?

Yes. You'll have to change your listening port to one of the ones that are (possibly) going to work with OOL, then make sure you use that same port number for everything else you configure.

Before you do anything though, read this thread. It's new this morning
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=55360
It's worth your while calling OOL & asking them for a straight answer... are you ever going to be able to run LW successfully. If they're monitoring all ports now, chances are that you'd just end up with a connection prob after changing ports.

I'm sure this isn't what you want to hear but it will save you the trouble of more port forwarding etc if it's all going to be futile anyway

Ya I read that already.

I e-mailed them. I'm going to make a new topic with my e-mail and their responses so everyone can read them and not just people who read this thread.
