Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. The Di-Link will either need to have UPnP enabled or manual port forwarding. I'm sure you saw it but just to verify, there is a di-link instructions link here under UPnP section Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link) Also, double-check your XP firewall. I believe you may need to enter a port for LW also; Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) Your problems sound more to do with a software or modem/router NAT firewall. Also, try not running winmx at the same time. |

Thanks for your help! "The Di-Link will either need to have UPnP enabled or manual port forwarding. I'm sure you saw it but just to verify, there is a di-link instructions link here under UPnP section Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)" Used that link and did enable UPnP thru D-Link website per previous post. "Also, double-check your XP firewall. I believe you may need to enter a port for LW also; Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)" The above LW link sez to start from within LW and I can't get it to boot [maybe it's not totally installed?] so I guessed on port. Is there a RANGE of PORTS I could try? BTW no XP ICF msgs have ever popped up "Your problems sound more to do with a software or modem/router NAT firewall."" I agree. I tried rebooting all units. maybe I'll call verizon. "Also, try not running winmx at the same time." thanks, haven't been thanks again for your help :-) |

out of the blue an icon popped up in task saying something to effect 'new device is available on network" icon for D-Link wirreless router now appears in My Network Places folder. I right clicked, saw 'invoke as an option, and after finding no meanigful references in MS help I 'invoked it. Then I went to D Link site again. after run/ipconfig to verify IP I pinged, test OK, verified UPnP was enabled, then rebooted D Link. LW still gets error msg[not net connection]. |

more UPnP tries the latest: in add/remove programs>components>Networking, I verified UPnP was checked and went ahead and checked peer to peer[don't know if it applies], Also redid XP firewall: UPnP framework>Edit>all PCs[incl internet]. per XP help article below: [LW still won't boot/connect so I will try PC reboot:-) To enable UPnP network functionality Windows Firewall is turned on by default in Windows XP, which can help provide security for your computer. Consequently, the firewall blocks ports 1900 and 2869—the ports that the UPnP framework in Windows requires for network communication. Follow this procedure to open those ports. You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings might also prevent you from completing this procedure.

You need to configure your XP firewall according to this Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) |

thanks 4 not giving up :-) below are the link config instructions & <<my comments>> WINDOWS XP INTERNET CONNECTION FIREWALL:
|
| ||||
I don't use XP so I'm not sure about the firewall. I do have alternate instructions which are slightly different which you can check with: 1. Settings for XP Firewall, & 2. Setting Up WinXP Pro FireWall If you're using SP2 you might also be interested in this MS & 3rd party patches which increases simultaneous connections. BTW the peer to peer option for upnp doesn't apply to this purpose. I think it's related to networking. I'm not sure why you can't connect. Are you still seeing a brick wall in front of the blue globe icon at the bottom of LW? See image below to see what I'm talking about. If you wanted to try other ports to connect with, the best to try would be any between 49152 - 65535. eg: 64049 You'd go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change the listening port. |
