help limewire not connecting! i have a windows xp and i downloaded limewire about 5 months ago and it was working fine up until about 1 month ago. i did the delete preferences thing and it worked...but then after i closed limewire and reopened it it went back to one bar  i did the delete the prefs thing again and it didnt work! plus i got the message saying it didnt have an active internet connection or a firewall is blocking limewire. but i'm sure i have internet connection and i deactivated the windows firewall and all my other antivirus/antispyware programs....just to be sure though, i went and did the open firewall thing from the link and it worked...then it stopped. i DO have a router though...maybe thats the problem? i'm not really computer savvy and i have no idea what to do..and sometimes limewire will connect but thats 1 in maybe 20 chances it will...and even then it stops by the 3rd bar PLEaSE HELP! |
What are your details OS(Win XP etc) LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see) Firewall you're using Modem/router brand & model ISP Connection type (DSL etc) Where you connect from (home, school etc) Are you sharing a connection with other computers Is this your first try with LW Do this port test & tell us the result http://www3.limewire.com:6346 Within LW go tools > options > bug reports > view example. Scroll down to 'recieved incoming this session'... is it true or false? Make sure you're not running 2 firewalls at once. Double check that your firewall's configured properly (better to have 1 running & configured that none running!) http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml :) |
details What are your details OS-Win XP home LW 4.10.9 Java 1.5.0_03 Windows XP Firewall but not running Linksys BEFW11S4 SBC yahoo dsl Connection type-DSL connecting from home not sharing connection with other computers i've been using limewire for several months and it was working fine until now the port test said "your test worked" Within LW go tools > options > bug reports > view example. Scroll down to 'recieved incoming this session'... is it true or false? FALSE i have no firewalls running...but i configured one just in case. should i make it active? |
As long as your firewall's configured properly, I'd turn it on. Your router supports UPnP. Do you have it enabled? If not, enable it within the router & select it within LW (tools > options > advanced > firewall config. tick 'use UPnP' & apply). Did anything happen just before you stopped being able to connect? Any changes made by your ISP? |
how to enable upnp within router? in the last reply you said to enable UPnP within my router...how do i do that? i have it checkmarked in the box within limewire. nothing out of the ordinary happened before lw stopped working..it was really sudden. no changes with ISP...its really weird  |
Have a look under the UPnP section & Linksys here Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link) Your model is listed; BEFW11S4. |
upnp ineffective after i followed the instructions from the link LOTR posted i disconnected then connected limewire and nothing's happened yet..is there anything else i can do? |
Reboot your computer. Sometimes it's the best when mucking around with new Di-Link settings, etc. |
didnt work rebooted my computer...no effect but something popped up a few minutes after i launched limewire it was one of those notices it said something like: limewire cannot connect to the network because of an inactive internet (which i'm sure i dont have!) or a firewall is blocking limewire (which i'm also sure is not the problem!) what do i do? |
Your router has a NAT firewall. This might be what LW is recognising. You might have to port forward. It's no drama, just takes a little time:) First though, I'd give your ISP a call & just see that they haven't started blocking p2p. It seems strange that this happened out of the blue! Do this first, so that you don't go through the whole p/f thing for nothing! Here's the p/f info anyway, just in case you need it Step 1. Set up a static IP address http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm Step 2. Port forward http://www.portforward.com/english/r...4/Limewire.htm Step 3. In LW, tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Tick 'manual port forward', add the listening port number to the box here. Apply. |
