Cannot connect at work

Hi folks. I did some searching but couldn't find anything of value.

I am trying to connect with Limewire while I am at work. I BELIEVE we have a pretty simple network setup, and I have no reason to believe we have Limewire blocked. I have never had any trouble downloading and never found a blocked website (and I've looked ;) ).

I was able to download and install LW just fine, but when I launch it, it simply never connects. It stays with the "connecting to network" prompts.

I am assuming there is something I can do, problem is I don't know much about the magic ports and all that good stuff.

I am running XP Pro and.. uhh.. that's about all the information I really know.

Thanks a lot!

Well, of value, at least for the moderators here, would be answers to the following questions:

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes,
give details of set up
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
12. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here:http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

I guess some of those questions you might be able to answer or to find out about.
Then maybe some of the geeks here will be able to give you some good advice.
Just my 2 cents.....

Cheers

Answers of value:

OS - XP pro
Firewalls - None that I know of, but since it's a corporate network, I'd assume there is one somewhere.

How much ram? - 1 gig

Hard Disk space available? - 80 gig

Connection type? - Unsure, I THINK it's a direct T1, again, corporate

Modem & router brand name & model numbers? - Please see above

Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.): Work

What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? LW- 4.10.9, Java 1.5.0_06

Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)? unknown

Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? Yes, network at work.

Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
No. I have been a user on my home systems for years and years.

Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here:http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

I get a standard page not found error.

Try to read this thread and follow the suggestions and links : http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=51357

XP pro has a built-in firewall (go: START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>SECURITY CENTER - [if you use the 'classic view' display it is called 'Windows Firewall]

I also believe that your corporate has at least one to protect its network, but I've no idea on how you could find out about it, except asking the responsible guy for the network.

Thanks for the link.

I'm not running the windows firewall. Company may have something.. don't know. I'll probably have to wander down that path.
