Unhappy Won't Connect.

I am running XP SP 2 & Limewire loads up fine and finds all my files but stays connecting. I run limewire on my laptop which is also XP SP2 & thisworks fine. I have configured Firewall as shown on limewire site & have tried everything from my computer knowledge. Thank you in advance for any help.

Read through the sticky at the top of this page. The first part "... check here first". Do the port test & see what result you get. There's a lor of info about routers, UPnP & internal firewalls, see if any of it applies to you

What are your details?

OS(Win XP etc)
LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see)
Firewall you're using
Modem/router brand & model
ISP
Connection type (DSL etc)
Where you connect from (home, school etc)
Are you sharing a connection with other computers
Is this your first try with LW

If it's a sudden problem, it might be related to your LW preferences. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

If you are having problems because you just updated your LW, then chances are it's due to LW's firewall detection technology. This is good for the network as a whole ridding of the problem of users with unconfigured firewalls which is not good for other users trying to connect to them. So if you did just update, check the link Birdy suggested; Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)

The problem might be your software firewall or else, it might be your modem/router. Most high speed modems have internal NAT firewalls. To configure them you have the option of UPnP or manually port forwarding depending on your brand & model.

Lightbulb Thank You

Thanks for all your help.

I have done the tests and they have passed OK.

I am running Windows XP Home SP2
Windows Firewall which has allowed LW and I have followed the tips and set up Gnutella
I use LW PRO version 4.10.9
I use BTBroadband ADSL with a Wireless Router - BTVoyager 2500 I use this with both my laptop which runs LW fine and my PC which won't connect.
I have 2 computers that connect to the network but I have turned my laptop off before connecting and this still does not work. The laptop always works.
I have not used LW before but set it up on my laptop then my PC after paying for pro version.

I was wondering if it had anything to do with the fact that my PC was bought from a shop with windows XP SP2 built in and updates with validated updates from Windows Update from microsoft and my laptop is installed with Windows XP Pro SP2 but can't validate Windows Updates from Microsoft. May this have anything to do with it?

Thank you all again & hope to have this problem solved soon.

Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW? See sample below. I've a suspicion the problem is your BTVoyager.
Are you using the laptop in UPnP mode or manual port forwarding? And which is this one using? Which ports are they set to?

Exclamation

I have a brickwall in front of the globe sign on my PC. I also have a wall infront of the globe when I connect to LW on my laptop but that connects OK on the BT Voyager.

How do I find out what ports my computers are running on?

Not really. If everyone was firewalled then it would be very difficult to downld files. That's why LW created a firewall detector. You should manually port forward the BT Voyager. But you'll need to choose a different port for each computer that's running LW. For one you can choose port 6346 & for the other perhaps port 64049.
I can't find specific instructions for your model but believe it should be the same or similar to BT Voyager 2100 or 2110. Go here http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm & on left-side of page you'll find the BT Voyager models. Then click on the Voyager 2100 link, look for Limewire on the list, then follow all instructions carefully. It is extremely important you set up a static ip 1st, instructions are on that page. But remember, you should set up a separate port for each Limewire you are running. So that means doing the port forwarding twice. Also make any adjustments to software firewall if necessary to clear that port number.
Here's a direct link to the 2100 model: http://www.portforward.com/english/r...0/Limewire.htm If this is not the similar to yours then look at the other models to choose one that is.

I have followed everything that you all have advised and it has been helpful. Unfortunatly nothing has worked. I followed portforward.com and still nothing. I still have the wall infront of the globe but like I advised before my laptop is the same with connection etc to the same router and has the wall infront of the globe and it still works.
