need some help i'm pretty new at all of this but i was using limewire for a few months and then it stopped working i got a new ISP and still my limewire will not connect and it says i'm behind a firewall (brickwall in front of earth) but the only firewall i have is windows firewall which i have turned off i'm on windows xp with the service pack 2 if there is any other information that is needed i'll see what i can do to get that to you but any help at all would be very appreciated |
Don't run without a firewall, just configure the firewall to allow LW through. Read through this sticky, it tells you how to configure firewalls. Do the port test & see what result you get. If your router supports UPnP, make sure it's enabled within the router & ticked within LW's tools > options > advanced. Connection problems? Check here first! Read the stuff about NAT firewalls in modems/routers. Does yours have one? What are your details OS(Win XP etc) LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see) Firewall you're using Modem/router brand & model ISP Connection type (DSL etc) Where you connect from (home, school etc) Are you sharing a connection with other computers Is this your first try with LW |
i'm running windows xp with service pack 2 LW version 4.10.9 java version 5.0 update 6 Firewall I'm using Windows firewall that came with my windows xp my ISP is a local company yucca communications Connection type is dial up 56.k i'm connected at my house no i'm not sharing a connection with other computers this is not my first time using Limewire also when it does happen to connect for a few minutes at a time after hours of waiting the firewall disappears from in front of the earth but if i close limewire and reopen it the firewall emblem reappers. i have done the connecting through the windows firewall before but it didnt do anything |
Did you configure your firewall? What was the result of the port test? What's the brand & model of your router? Does it support UPnP & if so have you got it enabled? The firewall might be within your modem/router. It's still better to run with the Win firewall than no firewall at all. |
the port test says Your test worked! i tried the configure firewall but still nothing same thing. i have no idea what a router is but the UPnP is enabled |
Your router is a piece of hardware. What boxes do you have that are connected to your computer? Have a look around & see what you can find. It might have 'router' written on it or 'modem' or 'modem/router'. It will have LEDs... some will blink & some will just stay lit. |
i dont have anything like that on my computer |
What plugs into your phone line to let you connect to the net? |
