Hi foolofthehill,

Mine shows three numbers and it looks something like this:

IP Address....................:192.xxx.x.xx
Subnet Mask.................:255.xxx.xxx.x
Default Gateway............:192.xxx.x.x

The bottom one is the one I use.

Default Second DNS IP?

foolofthehill - What do you mean by the second DNS IP? The handbook I have that tells me how to configure my router only gives me one number to type in that should supposedly lead me to a login screen.

The number I am using is shown in the properties as this:

IP Address:xxx.xxx.x.xx
Subnet Mask:xxx.xxx.xxx.x
Default gateway:192.168.1.1

Preferred DNS Server:xx.xx.xx.xx
Alternate DNS Server:xxx.xx.xx.xxx

I am using the number in default gateway, 192.168.1.1, which is also the number given in the users guide for my router.

Reaper54321,
I think you'll either have to contact Zyxel tech support or your ISP. The Zyxel site has a knowledge base but they have no data on a gateway timeout error.
Sorry

Follow the instructions at the link below. And by the way the default the username is admin, and the password is conexant for model 2-2-8-1 and By default the username is admin, and the password is epicrouter for model n791 . There are only 2 Conexant router listed so you have a 50/50 chance of getting it right.

If you are running Windows XP follow the instructions at the link below for setting up a static IP.

Okay, first of all thanks to all of you who showed interest in my problem and wanted/want to help me. I really appreciate it (This strong, smart and always helpful community here is one reason why I come here almost daily. It is a great place to learn things and it gives me the opportunity to lend a helping hand -though not as much as you all can- to those who have problems).

Grandpa, I went through all the suggestions and links posted (and yes, I'm running XP).
The default gateway IP is the same as my computer IP (though it is dynamic and changes every day). So, I tried this one in the browser address but ended up with FireFox not being able to load it. And just to make sure, I tried it as well with IE; same result.
But I accidentally typed a wrong IP at my first attempt and got to a page which was for log in and had already the username typed in as "admin" and also a password "****". So, I clicked on "login" without changing something, but the side just reloaded. Then I tried the both passwords suggested, but again, just a reloading of the page.

When trying to set up the static IP in my network connection, I'm ending up with a screen quite different to the one shown at "Portforwarding" (see screen shot "Internet Protocol TCP/IP). No Subnet Mask and no Default Gateways.

The only thing what I know now for sure is that I am firewalled (funny that I didn't realize this before, though I've seen it many times) -see gif "Network connection screen shot", although LW, FW and Phex do not recognize a firewall.

Any further suggestions at this point???

What address are you typing into your browser your default is not 192.168.1.1 it is 10.0.0.2.

Read all of the instructions on the links I gave you..

When you tried to set up a static IP did you go to Start then choose Run and type command into the box. And once the DOS prompt opened did you type ipconfig /all It is important that you put a space between the ipconfig and the forward slash /. It should have shown a ip address like 10.0.0.100 or something like that. The ip address needs to go into the box where it says use the following ip address.

I am not sure what router you have for sure and it sure would help if I did. Look all over the router and see if you can find a model number.

Okay, to your first part please see my screen shot of the MS DOS Prompt (the end of the numbers I've whitened)

For the second part please see the picture I've taken with my webcam.
But to be honest, I start doubting that the piece connected to my computer is a router at all, since all pictures I've seen so far have quite a different appearance.
However, what I can see/get as information about this part is

KingCom Conexant AccessRunner USB ADSL WAN Model K505

And if there weren't the information (see again the picture of 'Network connection screen shot" ) that it is Firewalled, I'd hardly believe that such a little thing could have a firewall.
But as I said, sometimes I feel Like Don Quichot fighting the windmills of La Mancha when it comes to computers. So, please don't bash me if it turns out that my suspiciousness was reasonable.....
