It takes LW a little time to get connected to the network, it's not automatic. Give it 15 minutes or so before you use it. If it's still not connected there may be a problem with your setup. Lots of good info in the stickies: Connections Problems? Look here before posting? If you have more problems, post back.

What firewalls do you have? XP has a firewall built in, not advisable to have two firewalls running at the same time. Can you give some details about your setup? OS(Win XP etc) LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see) Firewall you're using Modem/router brand & model ISP Connection type (DSL etc) Where you connect from (home, school etc) Are you sharing a connection with other computers Is this your first try with LW Post what you can and someone will try to help.

OS: Windows LW Ver.: Limewire 4.10.9 Java Ver.: java 1.5.0_06 Firewall: Windows Xp Firewall Modem/router brand & model: Siemens Speedstream 4100 (thats what it said on bottom) Connection Type: DSL Where you Connect From: Home Are you sharing a connection with other computers: No Is this your first time using LW: Yes Not sure what an "ISP" is... |

ISP is internet service provider - just the company you pay for your internet access. Do this test & see what result you get http://www3.limewire.com:6346 Have you made sure your firewall's set up for LW? There are instructions in the link 6_pac gave you & also here Firewall setup Your modem supports UPnP, so you should enable it within the modem & also tick that option within LW's tools > options > advanced > firewall config & then 'apply'. If you're not sure how to enable your modem's UPnP, there's info here http://subscriber.communications.sie...UG_English.pdf The modem also has an internal firewall, so maybe you'll have to use port forwarding. Try these other things first though! If they don't help then you can look at port forwarding next. Last edited by birdy; May 25th, 2006 at 07:05 PM. |

If you want to connect, you're probably going to have to do the UPnP thing or use port forwarding. It all looks confusing, I know (nearly had a panic attack the first time I had to port forward!), but if you just take it slow & go through step by step it's not so scarey It's up to you whether you want to go through it or not. I can't find any info to say that your ISP is definitely blocking, or even shaping, p2p - so it's likely that your modem's what's stopping you from connecting. |
