Default Firewall and a Linksys RT3IP2

Ok I read through all the links posted in this section on seting up UPnP on various routers. I even "tried" to configure this one but to no avail.

It is one of those voice over IP phone routers.

I can connect just fine on LW. just keep getting the little brick wall for firewall.

Make sure your software firewall is properly configured. Make sure you only have one Active firewall; Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

BTW after setting up UPnP you will need to relaunch LW for it to work.

If still problems you might be better to port forward instead of using UPnP. See instructions here http://www.portforward.com/english/r...2/Limewire.htm which is equivalent to your model for doing this.

Not sure about the UPnP but that router does have a NAT firewall, so you might have to port forward.

You did the port forward? Give LW a little time to settle down, sometimes the firewall icon takes a while (up to 20 minutes) to disappear.

(don't do what I did & forget to 'save & reboot' after making all the changes)

OK got it, the firewall icon ( brick wall ) is gone. thanks!

Now for the next problem, nothing downloads...

I do a search, click a file, hit download, nothing happens. I see users browsing my files though, but no uploads either.

You'd also need to restart LW. (oops I'm slow ... good you solved that part!)

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Download a magnet link from here & tell us what happens: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

In question 11 about the magnet link, did it complete the download? How fast did it go?

I just found this about your isp: http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,13493435
The last comment says a lot.
