Direct Connect browsing yes - download no??? Can anyone help me? I try to allow my overseas family to directly connect to my local comp. They can wihtout a problem, browse my files, but when they try to download they get the message " need more sources". I have sufficient slots. Router and Firewalls are configured correctly, otherwise they could not browse me, right? I got a T3 bandwith. Since the specific file in question is a home movie, there is obviously only one source and that's me. What is it I do not see? Your help is greatly appreciated. Michel |
Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall in front of the blue earth)? |
I covered the basics Trust me - I usually know what I am doing, but maybe I am too close to the issue: Both computers have hispeed and Limewire Pro, latest Rev. Both computers can download from the network Both computers indicate no firewall, turbocharged connection Both computers can connect to each other and browse each others files Both computers indicate the IP address for a direct connect, hence there is no firewall problem I have 3 computers with static IP on my LAN and accessed them vice-versa via Limewire direct connect via the internet Everytime any download started immediately and with >100KB/s speed. I ensured enough upload slots too and bandwith is a non issue for me. WHY for GOD's sakes can my friend in Sweden not download from me. All she is getting is a message either " more sources needed or host busy" Any solution to this riddle will be rewarded with direct access to my massive movie database. Thanks - Michel:mad: |
Next step I found out that both computers can be disconnected from the network and yet direct connect. (eliminates the issue with the uploads and slots) Both can browse each other like before and I can actually start an immediate download at my brothers's computer which hangs directly on the cable. He can not and I strongly suspect that my linksys WRT54GL router is the culprit. Whatever I try up to disabling the firewall and do port forward with static IP addresses, my brother will not be able to download from me. He can see and browse but when trying to download he only gets a message " waiting for more sources" Magnet link renders the same result. Talking to some idiot rep in Pakistan for Linksys today, he actually tried to sell me that no free pass through to this one computer can be configured on this router. Definitely I established now, that Limiewire is not at fault. It is 100% the router. Nevertheless, after 4 days of mickeymousing now, I am so wide open for a new approach and appreciate your thoughts. PS I successfully was able to RealVNC both ways, meaning I am able to remotely manage his machine and even come back to one of mine behind the same router and manage that one from his side. Just with Limewire it seems the router blocks the upload. |

I may have missed it, but did you remove the router and connect directly to the brother? |
Router Yes I did. I gave up in the meantime and simply installed an FTP server they can connect to without a problem and get fast downloads. After 4 lost days of trying to find a solution, I have one simple key finding for all users who want at times to exchange their files with their friends only and use Limewire to do that. You can connect directly to them yet, you do not need to be connected to the network!!! Should you not have an issue with any router and be able to vice-versa download, you can thus give your friend full attention and priority. For all users who do have routers and LANs with several concurrent computers like me, and can not achieve quick downloads from and to friends, I recommend to get the serv-u ftp server which is simple, affordable and allows you to trial it for 30 days with the full corporate version. Then, the simple home edition should do for a handful of friends who want to get your movies. $40 and 5 minutes later you have a full-fledged secure FTP site, they can access for instance with the Total Commander (the best free tool opn the web, making Windows Explorer redundant, with many other top built-in function such as top notch packing/unpacking, syncing of 2 folders accross a network or on the same drive for efficient file backups and much more - you can find it under http://www.ghisler.com/whatsnew.htm) I am out of here... |
