no longer able to download

this has been an issue for the past two days now. i've looked at the forum here, but haven't been able to find a solution. up until now i've had no problems downloading files. my connection is usually good; i'm usually able to download somewhere between 100-200 kb/s. i don't have my own internet connection as i just use a wireless card to get online.

currently, i can still connect to the internet, and surfing around is not a problem at all. once i connect to limewire, i get a download speed of less than 10kb/s, and then after a few minutes it drops to 0 and simply won't download.

any thoughts?

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Window XP
2. What firewalls you have? Norton - it has been configured to let Limewire connect, and hasn't been a problem before
3. How much ram? 1.5 ghz
4. Hard Disk space available? 20G
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Unsure, cable?
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Unsure
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? Home
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Limewire PRO 4.10.9
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)? Unsure
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? Yes

Make a note of all important settings within LW. Then try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

naturally, the one thing i see and decide to ignore as i didn't think it was the problem, turns out to be the solution.

thanks for the quick response, and sorry for making you post the same answer for whats probably the millionth time.

one other question, when i opened limewire, all my previous incompletes were gone. it seems that the folder where they're housed is now different. i moved them over and everything is downloading fine now. should this problem occur again, will this happen again? also, once i moved them to the new folder, it seems that the progress is now gone. is there a solution for that?

thanks!

EDIT: i take that back. it was working at first. now it seems to jump up close to 100kps, then back to or towards 0. its downloading at least i guess. better than nothing. is there a fix for that tho?

When you deleted your LW prefs folder, you needed to reset & make your downld location the same as before. If not, then that's why they didn't load.

It's hard to say what the cause & answer is. It could be your isp that has a program filter that kicks in when it detects you downlding at high speeds, or it could be a modem/router problem not handling the data competently (a firmware update usually fixes issues like that) or ... not sure. You could always try the LW Pro beta 4.11.x which can be accessed from your personal pro downld page & at the bottom you'll see a link for betas. To find out more about changes made with the betas see http://www.limewire.com/english/cont..._history.shtml
