Firewalls Hi i have Mac OS X and i have a firewall problem. I am using manual port 6346 with a high listening port, 51900-52000. i use a wi-fi wireless internet connect. could it be my provider blocking this? what is a good port number to use? do i have to enter it in limewire prefs as well as system prefs? i have tried UPnp and it doesnt work either. thanks! |
Your listening port & the port you're forwarding should be the same number:) I don't know if OS X has it's own firewall (not a Mac user) but if so, the port you've allowed for Gnutella should also be that same number. |
okay thanks. do you know of a good port number? besides 6346? |
Any number between 49152 - 65535 should be fine. eg: 64049 Yes if you have your OSX firewall active then you'd need to add it as suggested here OSX Firewall settings for Tiger If your wifi doesn't have UPnP abilities, then you will need to port forward. All wireless devices use NAT firewalls. You can see if you can find your model here http://portforward.com/routers.htm (instructions for windows users but mac shouldn't be too different), but 1st you need to set up a static ip if you port forward; use http://www.blizzard.com/support/wow/?id=aww01180p or else http://www.sonic.net/support/ss/mac/osx_staticip/ If you have the manual to your device, check that 1st. |
