Here's some info from UK Bob about your chdk (chkdsk?) error

I could be wrong but, if I remember correctly, chkdsk (check disk) was used back in the day to mark bad sectors on hard disks, so the OS would not try to save data to that area.

It also meant, unofficially, that the HD was starting to fail because each time chkdsk was run it would find more bad sectors/areas.

I would do a system restore. But there might be another way.

The chkdsk was for aol which I am not really worried about. I just need to wipe my OS clean and start over...

If you go to the first link there are instructions there for adding exceptions for XP firewall.

If you want to turn the firewall off go to Start/Control Panel/Windows Firewall In the popup window choose general and you can turn the firewall off.
