can't connect for the life of me. driving me nuts. i downloaded limewire yesterday. it worked perfectly. better than it had on any previous computer i'd had it on before. then later yesterday, it wouldn't connect like it is now, but i exited and reconnected and it did. now today, no matter what i do, i can't get more than one green bar in the lower left hand corner. i've done what i did yesterday, rebooted, uninstalled and reinstalled, all multiple times. i'm downloading things i've previously selected still, but i can't search for anything. i can't get it to work. at all. can anyone help? i'm using a brand new Dell laptop. i'm using a wireless internet connection. i have a mcafee firewall that is already allowing full access to limewire. i need help. fast. please. anyone? |

alright now this is popping up about every 3 seconds, literally, and it won't go away. someone please help me ASAP. LimeWire is unable to connect to hosts on the Gnutella network. This is most often die to firewalls or content-filtering software blocking access to Gnutella (port 6346). Please review your firewall's options to allow Limewire to access the Gnutella network or speak to your system administrator or ISP to determine if Gnutella traffic is being filtered. |

What brand & model of wireless set up do you have? Also, do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Is XP firewall turned on or off? 1st try this: Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) |

I'm not sure what the wireless set up is. I'm at my college. If you can tell me where it will say what the brand and model are, I can tell you. And yes, there is a brick wall in front of the blue world icon. And I don't think I have the XP Firewall. If I do, I don't know how to turn it off. And I'm not sure where my Limewire preferences folder is located. This is a brand new computer, I'm not sure how to navigate it yet. |

To disable XP's firewall, o to the control panel, double click on Windows Firewall, check the disable box. Alternatively, see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...620#post178620 College brings in a complex situation. Are you connecting thru the college's internet service or are you connecting via the college's accommodation connection or ... ? Many colleges block or shape bandwidth for p2p nowadays. They might have detected your use & put a block or shaper in place. To delete your LW preferences, see the image attachments I've given in that link (bottom of page) It will show you how to find & how to delete the preferences folder. If you're using LW 4.10 or later then you'll find your preferences in a "hidden" folder called Application Data. |

My Windows firewall was already disabled. I'm pretty sure I'm using the college's internet service. They just have Wireless internet in the lobby that anyone can use and no one moniters. It was working here just fine yesterday. |

My guess is it is being monitored ... probably what is being uploaded & downloaded will be on their record / system. So ... options ... try changing your connection or listening port; go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change from port 6346 to one between 49152 - 65535. You may need to restart LW for it to work. If you can't search ... that's a typical symptom of filtering by the isp or college! Last resort is: A Fix for those whose ISP's block Limewire pages 1 - 3 which have links to alternative instructions. |
